They should forget about playing the regular game and just do that shoot out thing. I'd watch more soccer if it was nothing but shoot outs.
I effing hate shootouts! So much of it is luck. With goalkeepers guessing which way to go cause how easy it is to score. Big time games relying on luck hurts my heart!
The ref, until that point, had mostly ignored flopping and histrionics. Then the slightest of touches sends the Dutch Fish flopping onto the ground and he rewards him. Brutal. Feel for the Mexicans. At least it wasn't RVP taking the PK.
I hate Robben as much as the next guy. Even as a Ned supporter. But his foot was stepped on. His antics afterwards were piss poor, but it was right call. Also missed PK right at end of first half where Robben didn't get the call.
Also incredible stupid of him, but awesome that THAT is Rafa Marquez's last play in an El Tri uniform!
It was a weak call . . . I've only watched about 10 games, but that was the weakest call in the box with the game on the line I have seen.
Plenty of refs would not have called that. The ball was a full meter away from Robben when Marquez stepped on his foot with a gaggle of Mexican players around the ball. It was unfair in a cosmic sense, but dude did step on his foot.
Ya I see that. I'm not a soccer guy but the games I watch with soccer guys and I ask why wasn't that called, they explain that you can't give them that foul in the box at this stage in the game . . . because to me clearly they call some of those a foul outside the box. Even a couple controversial hand balls don't seem to get called in the box late in the game. But replay does show his foot was stepped on, which is a foul if I understand it right. Feel bad for Mexico . . . they played well but where I was watching the game no one was for them and then they get that call against them.
