    How about this instead?

One of the more well-known stories about Sun Tzu, taken from Sima Qian, illustrates Sun Tzu's temperament as follows: Before hiring Sun Tzu, the King of Wu tested Sun Tzu's skills by commanding him to train a harem of 180 concubines into soldiers. Sun Tzu divided them into two companies, appointing the two concubines most favored by the king as the company commanders. When Sun Tzu first ordered the concubines to face right, they giggled. In response, Sun Tzu said that the general, in this case himself, was responsible for ensuring that soldiers understood the commands given to them. Then, he reiterated the command, and again the concubines giggled. Sun Tzu then ordered the execution of the king's two favored concubines, to the king's protests. He explained that if the general's soldiers understood their commands but did not obey, it was the fault of the officers. Sun Tzu also said that, once a general was appointed, it was his duty to carry out his mission, even if the king protested. After both concubines were killed, new officers were chosen to replace them. Afterwards, both companies, now well aware of the costs of further frivolity, performed their maneuvers flawlessly.

I like Sun Tzu so how about this, we un-ban PapaG. Every time he personally insults someone we ban two people who complained about him being banned. Eventually PapaG would get the message.

All humans are racists and bigots. That's something we can all agree on. I absolutely have no problem with what he said, he didn't point fingers or single anyone out, and you're reaching wben you call it an insult.

Bottom line I'd rather have PapaG back than not, because he's a passionate debater who provides some great topics. Other than insult and provoke PapaG, and ban him, I'm not sure what NB3 does. It seems to be his only purpose.

I thought you were going to suggest killing him and Nate so the rest of us fell in line. Either way really...

In one post he says he likes to post to provoke a reaction.

Then a day later he posts that he doesn't like the reactions that he provokes.

Throw in some stuff about people here are racists and bigots and I'm going to shut it down.

    Interesting dynamic here.

A mod makes a post that is arguably out-of-line.

Certain posters - you all know who - post 50 or 60 responses spread over multiple threads over a period of days or even weeks.

The mods then get blamed for "over-reacting" if they do or say anything. Sorry, but I don't get it! If having a post removed/edited bugs you that much (which is frankly a little weird) then don't bait the mods into doing it.

Gee Sly! I didn't see anything you did that offended me, to the contrary, I was impressed with how you tried to pull Nate off his war horse. I can't blame you for failing.

I didn't see anything that offended me in Papa G. Amusing perhaps but not offensive.

Nate drew my attention when he goaded and prodded Papa G and then Capped it with his ban.

Then Nate delivered the worst personal attack on me that I have seen on S2, but it didn't offend me. I would like to meet the SOB but I am not offended.

I think the wrong guy is gone if anyone has to go.

All posters post for a reaction. Duh. Why bother posting if you are ignored?

Few posters get the reaction they seek. Oh well.

    All humans are racist. Check.

Sorry, if you have a point it is obscured by clouds or something.

Re: Why was the "Why was PapaG Banned?" thread closed?

That was the worst personal attack you've ever seen on S2? Buddy, that was my point to begin with. You don't spend enough time on the main board to know why PapaG was permanently banned.

I wasn't attacking you as a Blazer fan. I wasn't questioning your knowledge of basketball or your devotion to the Portland Trail Blazers. I was saying that you don't post enough on the main Blazers forum to have perspective on why PapaG was banned. I think the post came out more harsh than I intended, but the point was to emphasize that I don't think you completely understand the history and reasoning behind his removal. Some of us have been dealing with him since 2008.

You only have about 2500 posts, and you spend a lot of time on the OT forum. That's not a personal attack, that's a statistical fact. I have over 43,000 posts, most of which have been on the main blazers forum. That's not meant to be a boast. That's to give you some perspective on how much time I've spent around the guy. He has made so many personal attacks and gotten into so many feuds with so many posters, and yet after almost six years he is just now being permanently banned? I don't see how this was something that was done hastily or unfairly. He's been given numerous warnings, suspensions, and chances.

Not all, some post to have a normal conversation or to exchange ideas. Not everything has to be combative. He admits that he posts to rile people up and then he complains after they are riled. It's similar to what you like to do but you never complain after you rile someone up.

He says reaction, which is a necessary part of any debate.

You say combative, which is more like what DennyCrane does.

cmeese's post are more milquetoast than marine.

And I don't try to rile people, I am only here to educate them and share with them the wealth of my long and uniquely experienced life.

Ha! 43000 posts! That hardly brings wisdom. Change my 2500 post to 25000 and I you will still be what you are, out of control, unwilling to take advice, even unwilling to learn.
Sort weird how you count posts, you have no idea what I read.

Did I delete his posts? Suspend him? Ban him? No, I just didn't think that what he posted was doing anything to further the discussion about PapaG. He was complaining about the forum in general. Instead of sidetracking the conversation further I closed the thread.

You asked why and I explained.

You didn't like the explanation and wanted to talk more about the banning of PapaG.

    So I reopened the thread.

If you want to take issue with everything that I say, do or don't do that's fine. You have a wealth of long and unique life experiences. I care and I'm willing to listen.

Re: Why was the "Why was PapaG Banned?" thread closed?

Did I say it was wisdom? I used post count as a way to show time spent on the forum. It has nothing to do with wisdom, knowledge, or fandom. You post primarily on the OT forum. You can't dispute that fact. Do you think maybe it's not a personal attack, but maybe that I have more experience dealing with PapaG than you do?

I'm out of control? I have been a mod for five years. I have banned one or two people in that time. I am completely willing to learn, but not from people who choose to attack me, or people who don't know all the facts. Any time we have had to take action against a poster, whether it was myself or Sly doing the discipline, we have had to deal with the same handful of people who complain about any banning. It gets old. You think I goaded him? I didn't personally attack him.

We only have a handful of rules on this forum, and personal attacks are one of those rules. I don't care if you think I'm an asshole, but you can't personally attack me. If you punched someone in the face because you thought they were an asshole, you would be arrested for assault. It's that simple. You can dislike people. You can attack their thoughts and ideas, but you can't attack them personally, and that's what PapaG did, repeatedly, over a span of six years.
