the thrill has looked engaged and played with energy at both ends of the court in the few extended times I saw him of late
Not surprised by this given how he was used later in the season, including some minutes during the playoffs. Of course, at times, he looked out of control and I would be asking myself, "What the fuck is this guy doing?" You'd think he was throwing the ball away and by miracle it'd make it to his intended recipient for a bucket. I like Barton. I think the kid is a total gym rat, and I really like his potential. Sure, he isn't likely going to be a star, but I still believe he'll be good enough to hold his own as a starter, or a top-level sixth/seventh man that comes in and heats it up (Jason Terry? Vinnie Johnson?).
I'm sure you are correct though he pushed it during the playoffs with trob running the floor. extended minutes for him might mean more of both from the blazers. got to cringe on the set shot "3". he is not much of a threat for the pull up though.
Will is certainly not a 'true PG' but he does some things very few on the Blazers roster do. He is fearless going to the basket (albeit sometimes with questionable results), is a very good rebounder for his position, can get his own shot and pushes off a rebound as well as anyone on the floor for the Blazers. He creates plays and outside of Damian, that is a rare commodity with this group. He certainly works hard as well so if that is something he wants to put the work in towards, have at it.
It's not great but is certainly getting better. From .138 to .303 and in limited minutes, a smoking .545 in the playoffs from '3'. He still has a tendency to shoot his jumper on the way down but his form isn't bad. If he could shoot it on the way up near the top, his percentage would climb and I'm sure they are working on that.
needs to at least command the defenses respect for his jumper in the P&R. remember kobe just waiting for him inside the paint during his rookie year?
