Has to be Lundy, and it has to be someone big upfront. Just go plus minus like I did above, and we are just clearly a worse team, and if Boyle plays to his age, we are really F'd. We lost a lot of upfront. And adding a couple of medium prospect kids like Fast and Lindberg isn't going to solve the issue. Even Miller isn't a big prospect. A little concerned at the moment. Let's hope the forward move we will 100% make is a big one.
I'll also add this, if we aren't going to deal Staal then deal McIlrath while he still has value. Signing Boyle for two years, Girardi for 5 or 6, McD locked up, Klein locked up, Moore will be locked up for at least 2 years, and if we keep Staal I am sure we think we can re-sign him, so why do we need McIlrath. Deal him or Staal IMO. But we need cap space and I'm not sure how we get it by dealing McIlrath. That is why I deal Staal. Plus with his injury issues do I want to re-sign him for 4 years?

I think most Rangers fans agreed the team needed to get bigger and more physical, last year Glass was 8th in the NHL in hits, is 5" taller and 30+ pounds heavier than Dorsett. Great upgrade in the grit category by Glen, Tanner wasn't added to score 20 goals, he's here to bang bodies. The idea that anyone on this board can determine that Miller isn't capable of playing in the NHL after such a limited sample of experience is nonsense. There had to be something that intrigued the Rangers enough to spend a first round pick on the guy. AV should give Miller the Pouliot treatment, expect the guy to make a few mistakes and hope he learns and improves. Miller's no small guy either and adds physicality to the team. It's too bad he got hurt in the playoffs before he could show more. Hopefully the addition of a few defensive free agents means that expensive bum Klein is history, the only positive about Klein is that he was an upgrade over Del Zotto and that's not saying much. Klein would not be a top 4 dman on any serious playoff contender. I agree Chuck, you would have to think a deal is in the making and I wouldn't be surprised if Staal was in the mix with one year left on his contract. Work your trade magic Glen!
Please don't ever be a GM sc...wait please be a GM for another team and make trades with the Rangers. Why would you deal Stepan at 24, Staal, AND Kristo for Thornton? I just don't understand it. Stepan will score 15 or so points less than Thornton and is 11 years younger. And you also want to give them Staal and Kristo. Wow man. How much better do we get in that trade sc? Going from Stepan and 57-60 points to Joe at 72 points makes us that much better? Then we give them Staal also? No way man. And I agree with you on Miller for sure panzer. No one knows good or bad. He may be ready to handle the wing on the 3rd line, and he may not be ready. I would never sit here and speak in absolutes with Miller, because quite frankly none of us can at this point. He is a total we'll see. I don't understand the total Klein hate though. Sure he is what he is, but he was solid here when he came over. He is nothing special at all, but at 2.9 per he is okay. A 4/5 dman I think. Again nothing special, but I'm not sure why he rubs you the wrong way so much.... And yeah, I think we all agree a deal is coming, it has to be. To me I think a dman will be involved, and it still seems like Staal is the most likely guy. He clears some cap space and only has one year left on his deal. So unless we can agree on a new deal at a fair price, I can see him moved. And whether it is him or not, I think some deal for O is coming.
July 2nd as Step said, so no way are we a finished product, but thus far we have lost 4 of our top 12, and only added Glass. And on D all we really did was flip Stralman for Boyle, which you can decide if that is a step up/down/neutral. Gone: Richards, Pouliot, Boyle, Dorsett Added: Glass 20 goal Richards. 15 goal Pouliot. Solid Boyle and Dorsett that made up 2/3 of our solid 4th line. Let's not go nuts and act as if we lost Mess in his prime, but that is a decent amount to lose for a team that struggled with O to begin with. And so far all we have replaced is Dorsett really with Glass. We have a lot of work to do upfront, and not much money to do it with. Should be an interesting few days coming up.
Mats Zuccarello is apparently searching for a four-year deal worth between $4 million and $5 million per season. (VG) This is where things get out of control. He says money is not as important as term. Then he POTENTIALLY asks for 4 mill +? Being a GM in a cap sport, especially one with a crazy low ridiculous cap like the NHL, is NOT easy. Now of course this may not be true, but honestly giving Zucc 4.5 mill +/- after one good season seems like a lot to me.
Wouldn't be surprised if Zucc wants to get a bigger contract. He's only been in the league for a few years so he hasn't made a lot of money having come as FA and spending a lot of time in Hartford (with a AHL salary). This past season was his first full NHL salary season and things can change very quickly with injuries so he may want to secure a big contract.
well that certainly is a change in tune...this is what happens once others start getting paid you look in the mirror and say f it I have to take care of me. cant blame Zucc for trying to get as much as he can when he can, but he had one good season...
Yeah, who knows what will really happen. First he will take less. Now he asks for 4-5 mill per. I think it is a combo of looking around and saying where is mine AND the agents getting into these players ears saying you are worth more, so get more. It is a tough spot, but 4.5 +/- just seems high for one good season. Who knows though.
If Zucc wants 4.5 to 5 mill per season I'd say cyaaaaaaaaaaa. That or sign him and put him in as part of a package to get a one center. Eventually what will happen is Zucc's size will get him hurt and then your stuck with big cap hit. Will be interesting to see how slats handles this one.
He's worth between 3-3.5 and did show physically he has some toughness despite his size. I was impressed with his puck possession.
I threw in Nieto to help balance things out, he looks like a 15-20g forward who's only 21. You won't get JT for just Stepan and Kristo, plus you need to come close on matching salaries.
I don't hate Klein it's purely business. You can't sit and lament the Rangers lack of offense but settle for Klein as part of the Rangers 2nd defensive unit. His salary is too high for the limited statistical return especially when the Rangers are cap strapped and could use the money to resign key offensive players. I don't see Thornton coming here, the road to the Garden has been paved with once weres like Joe Thornton. He would have been a good get years ago when he left Boston.
I hear you panzer, plus everything I have read still says Thornton wants to stay in SJ period. Until that changes nothing to discuss. We will add O though, just not sure how yet.
