The contracts given out each off-season have zero effect on the money players get as a group. Players are guaranteed an exact dollar amount regardless of every teams payroll being $10 million or $100 million.
After rereading your post im still not sure what your getting at. There is a garaunteed minimum every team has to have before they get fined but since there isnt a real hardcap the contracts given out that put a team over the minimum does effect the money players get as a group.
What does ORL get out of Ben Gordon for 2 years, 9 mil? This is a guy that sabotaged his previous two teams and was so full of himself when he was relevant in CHI. Makes no sense whatsoever. Out of all the contracts doled out so far, this is my vote for most stupid
