Nov. 10 - 7:06 pm et A source told ESPN's Buster Olney that the Rangers bid about $22 million for Daisuke Matsuzaka, with the intention of offering a contract of five years and $50 million if the they had the top bid.Olney is still saying that he thinks the Red Sox, at $38 million-$45 million, won the bidding, but he's also still the only one making the claim. The Seibu Lions might hold off until next week making an announcement on whether they're accepting the bid, a proclamation that would trigger an announcement from MLB revealing the winning bidder.Source: ESPN.com Nov. 10 - 1:20 pm et ESPN's Buster Olney is reporting that, according to MLB officials who are monitoring the bidding, the Red Sox may have posted the top bid for Daisuke Matsuzaka, with a figure between $38 million and $45 million. We find that pretty hard to believe. Something in the neighborhood of $40 million would be crazy with Scott Boras talking about a three-year deal and a clause that would make him a free agent at the end of the contract. Anyone committing that much would have to know it had Matsuzaka for at least five or six years at a fairly reasonable rate.

I'd be an ass hole, take the 51 and only say "Noh" and walk off. JK. Pathetic Sox are doing this. He does have a crazy pitch. That Gyroball. That sh*t goes like 95+

You both dont understand. They won the BID.IF he doesn't sign they get all the 51 million back. If they sign him(which will be 3/48M vacinity accoding to Boras and the Boston Globe they will get the 51M and alot more back in marketing for signing him. This is a wash, stud deal and we have a cy young guy here. Dont forget, theo didnt just fall in love with this guy after the WBC MVP outing, he has been scouting him for 3 years! he knows what he is getting.

I find it very hard to justify commiting 99 million dollars over a 3 year span to some dude who's never even pitched an MLB game. Did Justin Verlander, Fransisco Liriano, or Jared Weaver even make 1 mil last season?

I don't think he would be a freeagent next year. I remember hearing that he had to wait like 2 more years or something, I could be wrong but that's what I heard.

Not sure I'd pay a guy this much money, without even seeing him step on a mound, in MLB.

Yeah a lot of people are confused with this, they think the red sox just wrote a $51 MIL check last night. They get the money back if they don't sign him, but still it is pretty ridiculous if they do sign him that they will pay this team $51 MIL and then another contract which must be huge as well. If they do sign him, the sox will definately have to unload Manny Ramirez...he makes about $22 MIL a year there is no way Boston can afford all of this. I've never even seen the guy pitch so I can't really critique him that much, anyone have video of him or a link or something?

I find it stupid that people believed he got $50 million just to talk with the Red Sox. How could that make sense to anyone?
