<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (LakersFan247 @ Nov 14 2006, 11:23 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>I'm guessing that you didn't watch the game on Sunday :dunno: Kobe changed his position back to SG and the innitiator of the offense which got Lamar 20 points and Kobe still scored his. Also, while Michael never had the same drama that follows Kobe he still had his problems..such as the so called gambling problem...the media really burned him on that one. But I understand what you are saying.</div>I did actually miss sunday's game, but one game doesn't make or break a trend. If Kobe turns it around and helps bring out Lamar Odom as a talent I'll change my tune, but obviously last year he didn't and one game this year doesn't change that. And Yeah, whether or not Kobe deserves the bad press he gets is up for debate, but Jordan never had anything near that level in media issues. Even the gambling thing didn't get nearly as big as Kobe's, part of which deals with the fact that rape is worse than gambling (not saying Kobe did it, just the charge alone is damning to many people) and didn't Jordan's issues happen after his ball career was over?

I remember this from the documentary I saw on NBAtv. [IMG]

You know what I find funny? Is that Kobe is accused of not passing the ball when infact kobe passed way more in the triangle than MJ ever did. Infact, kobe's whole position was to set up the whole offense. Mj never did that. All he did was score.

why do people feel the need to compare _________ to Jordan? its simple...nobody will ever reach the level that jordan has. people need to stop looking for the next whoever and start realizing that stats and accomplishments can be duplicated but not replicated

I don't agree with it. Jordan will be surpassed eventually. Right now there are players not too far off. Kobe is 27/28 years old....the same age where MJ won his 1st title. Kobe has already had 30PPG+ seasons, already proven to be a better jumpshooter and all defensive defender, and has 3 titles under his belt. LeBron James is 21 and is possibly more dangerous overall offensively. He has a great chance to win rings at a very early age, and with his improved clutch ability, all he needs is to improve his defense. Once that happens, the sky is the limit. And Dwyane Wade is something like 24 and already has won a ring with one of the best Finals performances we have ever seen. He has devloped a midrange/slashing game very similar to MJ's, fantastic playmaker, clutch ability is right up there with best in NBA, and guy is a pure winner. Once he improves his D, like Bron, the sky is the limit. So yeah, eventually there will be a player that will surpass MJ in terms of actual play, and off the court stuff that made MJ what he is. No one can replicate it, but someone will come along and one up it. And right now, LeBron James has the best chance yet of someone doing that.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (falconman1130 @ Nov 15 2006, 04:19 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Jordan's 60+ points in the playoffs is more impressive. Dallas may have gone to the Finals, but before last season they were considered one of the SOFTEST DEFENSIVE SQUADS IN THE LEAGUE. They STILL aren't one of the best defensive squads, as their horrible start can attest to. They developed a greater emphasis on defense than before because of Avery Johnson, but they still needed a lucky foul from Manu Ginobli to make the conference finals. So Kobe's 62, while impressive, was still not against championship caliber defense.</div>And San Antonio didn't get lucky breaks even to get to a 7th game? Terry suspended and Terry's missed shot in game 5? Also they improved their defense the year before last year as well. Ever since they got Dampier. Also to answer this question no way Kobe ever gets close to what Jordan did. Jordan never had Shaq and still won 6 championships. Kobe has done very little without Shaq including missing the playoffs one year.

Also, let's not forget that Rudy Tomjanovich(coach at the time) quit and Frank Hamlen, the assistant coach took over. The injuries I am talking about are Kobe being injured for over 20 games, Lamar and Mihm both missing over 10 games. That really hurt us in the long run for the 2004-2005 season.

AND their collapse in the Finals should prove that they aren't a defensively impressive team all the time. I read an article recently that pointed out that the Mavs are HORRIBLE against athletic guards. Think that's not true? Why'd Jason Richardson TORCH them all last season? Why'd D-Wade become able to lift the Heat? Cause the Mavs can't guard atheltic guards.Like Kobe.

Harris can guard most point guards. Wade torched them with all the free throws he was awarded from the refs. An unusual amount of free throws to say the least. I'll leave it that. Kobe torches all teams from time to time and Jason Richardson seems to get extra motivated when he plays the mavs. Even when he was guarded well he made shots.

There are going to be more athletic and better all around players to come, however, nobody will give a flying F*ck because they are too stubborn in their support of Jordan to acknowledge it.Also, Jordan is getting more overrated by the minute. When he ended his career he was easily one of the top 2 greatest ever, but now, he's become so inflated that the credibility of anyone who makes those claims is lost. His stats were great, not AMAZING. When he scored 63 against Boston in the Garden in 1986, the Bulls lost, and eventually were swept out of that first round series. But the point is, everything he has done is now the stuff of legend when the fact remains that the VAST majority of the things he did really weren't. Jordan gets the benefit of the doubt more than any human being to ever exist. Like I said, his numbers were great, but they weren't mindboggling.

Right, I'm not denying right now there are more athletically talented players in the league than Jordan... I know that... But to reach "Jordan status" to have not only a game equivalent of his, but also the IMPACT that he had not only in the NBA/US, but also world wide... Think a player will ever cover both aspects like Jordan did?

But these days, the NBA is already well known, and there is no need for a single player to have to carry it's name anymore.

Yeah you're prolly right... A ton of players that're in the NBA are from international/other countries and are quite known... So that makes sense...

Who is Kobe? Kobe is Kobe. MJ was MMJ no need for comparison. It doesn't matter about "Jordan status" players play not to be like MJ but get there name out there instead of looking up to MJ all the time.

MJ is the guy everyone loves. Kobe, it's hate it or love it. No matter what Kobe does, he'll never be loved to the extent MJ will.
