    A couple of comments made by Justin Verlander on the A's Trade per MLB

    "I thought that they made that trade for us, no doubt in my mind"

    "If they want to win the World Series that they'll have to go through us"

    He also mentioned that the past two Detroit Series with the As' were fascinating but heartbreaking for Oakland.

    Pretty brassy comments, no one has clinched anything yet.

    ...let's put things in their proper context...this is what Verlander actually said;

    http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/1...ade-detroit-tigers-mind?ex_cid=espnapi_public

    "I found it very interesting," Verlander told reporters Saturday, according to MLB.com. "Really, when I saw that trade, I thought that they made that trade for us. No doubt about it in my mind."

    The 2011 AL Cy Young Award winner sees the trade as Oakland general manager Billy Beane's attempt to enable his team go all the way in 2014.

    "If they want to win the World Series, they're envisioning that they have to go through us, and, even though it's been two fantastic series, it's been heartbreaking for them the last two years," Verlander said.

    But Verlander also downplayed any notion that the trade was done solely because of the Tigers.

    "I think a lot of factors had to do with why they did it," he said. "Obviously, October's the main one, not necessarily us, but October in general."

    The guy has a smidgen of an ego, though Detroit is considered top dog in that division s@@t happens. If you are in first place or wild card finalists you are close. If you have the pennant in hand then you can say they have to go through us. In the case of Oakland they have played like a top dog and acquired the means to finish, but the Angels will probably make moves of their own.

    ...yup, I don't think the Angels will stand pat.

    ...in addition to a starter, the Yanx could really use some some offensive help. I thought when the season began the Yanx could use McCann, Beltran, Soriano, et al as DHs. But seeing as none of them is hitting, I hope the Yanx can pick up a bat or 2. I still like the idea of Utley and I'd also like to see them replace Soriano and/or Johnson.

    I like my aces with big egos. But I also want them to air that swagger on the mound and NOT in the media. Rookie, bonehead comment.

    Looking at his 2014 stats so far, I don't think there are many teams trembling at the thought of facing him.
    As of now, he's having a mediocre season and could be on the fast track to the down side of the hill.
    If Scherzer slips a bit, bye bye Tigers.
