Monroe's a better player but Hibbert's a rare traditional center. Whitsitt would have gotten us both.
Hibbert is a total game-changer on defense, and that's more valuable than Monroe's (admittedly sweet) low-post offense. Hibbert bitched about teammates because they deserved it. When other people do it it's called "calling them out". HOWEVER: the point is moot. I wouldn't want to give up any starter (other than POSSIBLY Wes, but I have a feeling we'd miss him more than we might expect) and that ain't going to get it done. Were this a real possibility I guess Olshey might think: "I only got Lopez because we couldn't get Hibbert, so the fans will be on board, right?" and then discover how wrong he was.
Roy Hibbert You mean the player I said was overrated 2 years ago and wasn't worth the MAX? And now we're here like 2 years later and he hasn't lived up to his contract and the Pacers want to deal him. Not. Surprised.
He added that Indiana’s preference would be to send Hibbert to the Western Conference. Portland originally gave Hibbert his max offer, and the Blazers have been intermittently linked to Hibbert. But the Blazers are focused on keeping star power forward LaMarcus Aldridge with a contract extension and making smaller tweaks to their bench. A source labeled a Portland deal, “unlikely.” Sporting News Rumor makes it sound like it would take LA to get a deal done. I think a lot of teams would offer more than Rolo and Wes. If Indy would do it, talk about a hard one to swallow, 2 fan favorites in Rolo and Wes
With Hibbert devalued into a bargain, I wish Olshey would look at it seriously, but I don't think he's creative enough.
I just don't see it without losing one or both of them, though. And if that's the case, then no. If our bench was further along and we could replace Wes at SG I might think about it... but we don't. And we still have a hole at backup PG to fill for the BAE. It'd be horrible for us. Not that Wes is the end all be all... but the downgrade at that position, not only just in PPG or whatnot, but the outright hustle and knowing you'll have your starting SG almost every game... you can't make that up with the BAE without sacrificing elsewhere. If I were Olshey, I wouldn't do it... we don't have enough behind the starting 5 to warrant any of it.
What would be creative enough? It's one thing to say someone can't be creative, it's another to propose ideas to help or at least back up that you can't think someone can do it.
I would definitely try to acquire Hibbert. Give up some of our young guys or multiple unprotected picks. But I wouldn't trade Lopez or a starter for him. Hibbert doesn't have the ability to play more than 28mpg due to his asthma do we need to pair him with a big minute center. Robin would be a perfect tag team. There's too much risk with Hibbert decline last season to have him as your only starting option.
When they went after Hibbert before, It was before the Stotts hiring. I wonder he would even fit what they are doing. http://www.blazersedge.com/2012/8/7/3226703/blazers-hire-terry-stotts-as-head-coach
We can trade up to 4 first round picks in the next 7 years. If they want a starter a deal doesn't get done. I'd aim to send our picks and bench players to a rebuilding third team with a starter going to Indy
I'm just wondering if Stotts would feel by adding him it would effect his offense in any way. I'm just being hypothetical. I don't pretend to know anything.
Naw, but either can Rolo. That didn't stop us from going after him. Sigh. Guess my lil hypothetical doesn't hold any water.
Our starting five was so awesome I want to see how good it is to start next season. The group made a ton of improvement from two years ago to last year. I want to see what kind of improvement it makes over this summer. Neil, don't break up our starters under any circumstance!
