Looks like the Florida Skies around Tampa Bay this AM, Overcast, getting dark, with very few bright spots.
No offense to the floridians on the board, but isn't that every day with the getting overcast, threat of rain thing?
...pretty much...water on both sides, and the clouds just build up with moisture till they can't hold it anymore...I believe that Fla also has more lightning strikes than any other state.
July, August, and into September the heavy rains come and they can be doozies. I seen worse in Viet Nam & Korea. Lighning capital of the world, stuff is pretty but can be very deadly, if you are at the beach and you see the clouds start rolling in you'd best be for getting the hell out of Dodge.
Many years ago I lived in West palm beach for a while & one day my kids wanted to go swimming but it was raining out. My in-laws lived in Delray beach & they suggested we go there since it was very sunny where they were, Well, by the time my kids got down to the pool it began to rain in Delray beach. So we headed back home. We were driving with the sun in front of us but every time we stopped at a light we could hear the rain hitting the car from behind us. Drove further into the sun & again at every light the rain caught up with us. Needless to say it literally followed us back to West palm beach. It was the strangest thing I've ever seen. Yeah Steve Florida is a weird state when it comes to rain.
...funny thing about Fla...I was born in Jax and out of all the years I lived in the state (and I still have a house outside Orlando)...I have NEVER been to the West Coast. (the Keys don't count)
My first time here was to West Palm back in the fifties as a young kid. My Aunt and Uncle made a fortune in that area designing, building, and interior decorating houses. That was when all the "Yankees" were moving down in droves and talking over the area. I've been all over the state like the Panhandle best but when I came here in '86 to stay there was no work up there.
...oh yeah, I know where that's at...and yeah, when I was a kid it was entirely different down there. Now when I do go down there, I can't wait to leave and get away from the traffic.
West coast or west coast of Florida? My grandparents (well, grandma now) lived in Spring Hill and I've visited the Gulf numerous times... Also have spent time in Cali, but wouldn't live in either location... If I could find a job, I'd move to Antartica... I hate this blasted heat...
...just got this from the weather channel; http://www.weather.com/safety/thunderstorms/top-5-lightning-prone-states-20120509
...lol...both actually, although my Dad was stationed in San Diego for a year or 2...but I was 1 or 2 years old and don't remember anything about it.
Definitely of the US... found this... while it is 3 years old, it still has Florida #1... http://www.weather.com/outlook/weather-news/news/articles/lightning-prone-states_2011-03-14 No. 5 (tie) South Carolina/Oklahoma: 14.6 strikes per square mile No. 4 Alabama: 15.9 strikes per square mile No. 3 Mississippi: 18.0 strikes per square mile No. 2 Louisiana: 20.3 strikes per square mile No.1 Florida: 25.3 strikes per square mile According to http://geology.com/articles/lightning-map.shtml And Kifuka has the highest frequency for a city/village (located in the Congo) http://www.wondermondo.com/Countries/Af/CongoDR/SudKivu/Kifuka.htm average 158 lightning strikes/square kilometer annually...
San Diego, one of my favorite places, graduated from high school there. The move "American Grafitti" though set in Northern California was pretty much spot on with the actual times. Went back there twice still liked it and was considering living there after my Service Time was up. Glad I did not make that move given the cost of living and taxes. I've been thinking about going back for a visit sponge off the relatives for a couple weeks.
Spent an entire summer out there as well as 2 business trips and would NEVER be able to live there... for both the lack of seasons as well as financially...
