I can't believe this happened to me or my family today. It still hasn't sunk in. I am still in shock - and I have to vent. This is going to be long.Today - I come home from College and I walk in to see my dad on the couch just looking horrible. I asked him why he was here so early - (he goes to work early in the morning, and doesn't come back till around 7:30PM) - he said "He was sick." Anyways, I walk to my room and I see my mom in tears - she tells me to come over here. So I go and ask her what happened. She told me my dad was let go from work. I asked her to repeat it like 5 times...I could not believe it. I was in shock - I still am.I asked her why...she said she didn't know.So I went up stairs to my room, shut the door and just laid there for like 2 hours just f*cking thinking and being depressed and being in a state of shock. I could not stop shaking for like 2 hours. My dad has been working at Hagopian (An Oriental Rugs Company) forever. 15 years total. He was the manager of one of the retail stores - and he was just let go - just like that. He is 54 years old - and what the F*ck is he going to do now? We rely on him for everything - how the F*ck are my two sisters, and little brother going to college? This man was a respected man, and he felt like sh*t today. He was disrespected. My dad used to drive the company car to work - they made him call me mom to come pick him up. How embarrassing is this? Not only that, but all of his friends know because they all work at the same company. While I was sitting in my room - I decided let me give a call to Hagopian - maybe I could get through to the owner who let him go. For your knowledge, the company is a family business - my family and the Hagopian family were friends. We used to invite them over a lot to have dinner and such. So the owner knows me personally since I was about 8. Anyways, I finally got through to him. He picked up the phone like a happy little prick and I started the phone call that will not leave his mind - ever. It was the most wittiest/sarcastic, and intelligent speech I have ever recited - and this was all my emotions flowing spontaneously into the form of words. Words that this bastard will never, ever forget. I know he feels like sh*t today. After my phone call my mom came to my room - still in tears - and told me how my dad broke down in tears. How do you feel for a grown man - 54 years of age that broke down in tears. The thought of it alone makes me want to cry. Anyways, I feel like sh*t right now. Today is for sure the worst day of my life. All you Michiganders can identify with me - I'm sure some of you, at least have gone through my situation. - F*ck MICHIGAN. Sorry for the long post - I have to vent somewhere.

Sorry to hear that man... I'm curious as to what exactly you said to the owner? Also, I lived in Michigan for about 5 months or so, and couldn't find SHITE there for jobs... It's all factory or temporary agency GARBAGE... So I hadda move outta the state... I'm sure it's not that easy though for your family... Hopefully with his 15 yrs of experience he'll find somethin' no problem...

I'm sorry to hear that man. Hopefully your dad can find work again. Does your mom have a job? And why was your dad let go? This would really suck. I feel for you man.

My dad used to work for Singtao newspaper.. this bay area chinese newspaper.. well he was there for a year.. won a editor of the year award.. den after a while he got fired.. it was seriously like wtf.. I think it was one of those incidents where they had to cut their people out because theres too much.. so they fired all the older guys and kept al the young guys.. even if they suck..This is nothing compared to urs since he workd there for 15 years.. damm.. really sucks.. what a friend those Hagopians are...

Yes Reppin, I know what your going through. It is a feeling like no other, almost like death, when you hear that your father has been let off. My dad has been let off twice since Bush came into power. It sickens me to know that this happens daily to families not just across the state, but the nation, and even the world. Good luck with you dad's job hunt.

I feel you. My dad was layed-off from J.L. Hudson's about 4 years ago if you have heard of it. But, luckily for me and my family, he got a new job at Gander Mountain earning more than he did before.Hope it turns out the same for you. Stay positive.-TC

Wow rep, it's a damn shame that had to happen. I feel for you bro. You did the right thing though, calling him up and telling his ass off, I give you props for that. Hopefully your dad can pull through and I wish the best of luck to you and your family.Edit: If your post is missing, you know why...

Did the guy ever tell you why he layed him off?My dad was fired just because the head guy of his Allstate department screwed up, so they fired everyone in that department including my dads boss.

Blame the company owner for that. Not President Bush. A president doesn't decide whether a boss lays-off some people. Bush has no effect on this AT ALL.

No, I'm not blaming Bush at all. I'm just saying that there is a coincidence. He's been layed off twice in this decade, and it's pathetic. But by no means am I blaming Bush.

I feel you dude...I don't know what the reason is but a trend I've noticed is that I dont know why but companies and business would rather higher young unexperienced 20 year old kids right out of college than an older more experienced worker that's been doing it for years..it's kind of sickening..that they can just do that when they know that guy has a family..this kind of makes me sick to my stomach too because you said they were "friends of the family"and they pull a douche bag move like thatI feel your pain manBTWwas he just layed off..or was it the two week notice thing?I know there's some sort of system where you get two weeks notice that you're being fired or something where you can search for a new job..it isnt that easy so good luck to him

The only time my mom had a job where she was fired from was Jack-In-The-Box. She used to work there as a cashier. The manager suspected that my mom had been stealing money, even though she wasn't. He finally found a B.S way to fire her and it was:My mom accidentally gave a girl $7 for change when the girl gave my mom $10. The change was supposed to be around the $6 range. The manager fired my mom that same day... :thumbdn1:But that's whatever. After that incident, my parents opened up a store, sold it a few years later for a couple grand, bought a new store in Colton (California), sold that one and bought three new stores that are currently doing quite swell... That's the improper way to explain it. The stores are doing remarkable profit. My parents can actually support my entire family now! However, they choose not to. :happy0144: </span>
