In fairness, had your proposed deal happened, the Utah pick wouldn't have been high enough to nab Exum, so it's not quite a fair comparison.
The point is that Utah would never do that deal because LMA would never sign with them. So they would be trading all that for a 1 year rental. The Cavs on the other hand could keep LMA because they would be title contenders if not favorites, with a core of Lebron, Aldridge and Irving.
I am right there with you. I wanted to trade LMA for the #1, but then I would have traded down a bit & pick up some more assets & pick Exum @ 3 or 4. Trade is fine by me - although I don't like Favors too much.
Talk to me when Lebron signs on the dotted line. Until then Cleveland has as much chance as Utah to resign LA next season and that would be Zero. There was also rumors that Utah was offering Burks, Favors/ Kanter and #5 for #1 and Jack. Sounds like a potential 3 way deal could be worked out.
But if the trade is moronic, then the person who posted it must be moronic. By not agreeing with trade you are personally insulting op and should be banned.
Maybe make it a 4-way deal including a signed/traded Monroe coming to Portland, with Favors and CJ going to Detroit. http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=kacp3a2 Would give us: Lillard/Burks/Barton Matthews/Exum/Crabbe Batum/Wright/Claver Monroe/Robinson/Freeland Lopez/Kaman/Leonard I'm sure there's a reason that deal wouldn't work (not the least of which is that 4-team deals almost never happen), but it actually looks pretty reasonable to me.
He's more proven offensively than Favors, and we need a solid offensive player in the frontcourt. IMO, Monroe pairs better with Lopez than Favors does. Edit: They're actually relatively comparable when looking at the per/36 and advanced stats, with Favors having more blocks and fouls, and Monroe having more assists. Neither are world-beaters defensively, but Monroe is more of a low-post offensive threat, whereas Favors is more of a garbage-man undersized center type. We already have Robinson for that role.
6'11 253 for Monroe 7'2 wing span standing reach 9'.5 6'10 268 for Favors I am not sure you can call him undersized especially with a 7'4 wing span and a 9'2 standing reach.
I think you missed the point. I wouldn't want another center. We already have several. A PF--or more specifically, someone who plays like a PF--fits better. Plus, I also like the idea of Monroe's passing ability in our offense. And I'm not sure where you're getting 268 lbs for Favors, but I don't buy it.
I haven't watched Favors much (or Monroe, for that matter - but more than Favors) but I've never been impressed by him. I don't feel like you can give the ball to Favors in the post and expect him to put the ball through the hoop - basically, I think he gets his points off clean-up duty. Whether that's true or not, I don't know - that's just the impression I've gotten from seeing him the few times we play UTH each season. With Monroe you can actually utilize him as a scoring option - give him the ball and he'll do a pretty good job of putting it through the hoop. I know they have the same FG%, but from what I've seen Monroe creates scoring opportunities while Favors is mostly on the receiving end of scoring opportunities created by others. Again, not sure if that's true - just my impression. I think Monroe has a much higher ceiling than Favors, too.
http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/4257/derrick-favors right there at the top he was 245 at the combine.
I would agree that Monroe is offensively superior but he certainly does not stretch the floor. Only 14% of his career shots have come beyond 10 feet. Favors on the other hand was around 25% and neither are particularly efficient out of the paint. Therefore since their roles on offense would be fairly similar, low post scorers, I would prefer Favors who is a better athlete, a better defender and won't be expecting a max salary.
Gotcha. So were I to revise the statement that sent you down that rabbit trail, I'd say, "Favors is more of a garbage-man frontcourt player. We already have Robinson for that role." Point still stands--Monroe fits our roster better than Favors does, especially considering that Favors is now a $13M/year guy (got his extension last summer, starting this year). Their respective salaries will differ by only a couple million.
Personally I think the team needs to get better defensively, I am sure Favors would help in that area plus his physical style would be a nice change of pace from the finesse we have seen from our bigs since Pryzbilla went to Charlotte. Also since he is known to commit fouls he would actually open up some playing time for Robinson to come in and contribute. Furthermore, since Lillard will not become a good defender over night we need a big who can protect the rim and Favors is a much better shot blocker than Monroe.
Favors' defensive numbers aren't that great, and his propensity for fouling show that he's no great shakes in that area. The likelihood of him getting into foul trouble is not really a great selling point, and considering that he's supposed to cover for the turnstile that currently is Lillard's perimeter defense, that means we'd be lucky to see him on the floor for 15 minutes a night. Not what I want for $13M. Offensively, Monroe is relatively physical as well, plus (as mentioned above), he actually plays a low post game, which many in here have been dying to see from Aldridge. I see where you're coming from; I just disagree. I'm enjoying this conversation though.
The trade is the dumbest thing in the history of man. The trade should jump off of a cliff to save us from future generations of stupid trades. If this trade was on the left of a sweet old lady in a crosswalk and Hitler was to it's right, I would swerve LEFT if my brakes failed. This trade is soooooooooooo ugly I took it to the zoo and they thanked me for bringing it back.
