Carmelo Anthony's ever-changing deadline was extended another day, thus leaving the Knicks wondering if the free-agent forward is laying the groundwork to leave New York.

The Knicks were hoping to have a decision last week after team president Phil Jackson flew to Los Angeles to offer Anthony a max deal of $129 million over five years. At the very least, the Knicks were hoping that Anthony would have made a verbal commitment following the holiday weekend.

Instead, as the Daily News reported on Monday, Anthony is “torn” over what to do next. The Lakers have offered him a max deal worth $96 million over four years while the Chicago Bulls can offer him only $75 million over four years. Of the three teams, Chicago is considered the most ready to compete for a championship.

In order for Anthony to get a deal from Chicago comparable to the one the Lakers have offered him, the Bulls would have to engage the Knicks in a sign-and-trade. Jackson refused to comment on such a scenario two weeks ago, but there is a growing belief that Jackson would be open to a sign-and-trade since he could get an asset back for his top player.

If it was about money, Melo would have made his choice with either NY or LA by now I would think. The national media had us out of it on Monday, now we are mentioned yet again.

The FO is not doing anything, yet, so that should tell us, they know somethine we dont.

Hey its only a reportedly inaccurate quote taken out of context spoken more that 20 years ago by a man who hasn't been involved with the team since 2003.

    But you know, that's cool.

It's been 20 years since we've been a serious contender?

    Time flies.

True. It must be the players' fault because organizations don't win championships.

Anyhoo. If Bosh signs that deal in Houston Anthony probably takes his talents to South Beach, huh?

Marc Berman of the*New York Post*is reporting*Melo is reportedly hoping Phil Jackson can move the contracts of*Amar'e Stoudemire,*Andrea Bargnani*and others in the hopes of signing LeBron to a big deal. It would pair the two friends together and give the Knicks two stars on their way to building a super team.

According to a friend of Anthony’s, Melo has held out faint hope Knicks president Phil Jackson can pull a miracle and clear out the necessary salary-cap space to get it done, but he is running out of time. Anthony’s decision could come in the next couple of days.

It would require Jackson to ship out Amar’e Stoudemire and Andrea Bargnani’s expiring contracts, and for Anthony and James to take less than the max.Iman Shumpert*might have to be dealt, and the rights to Jeremy Tyler renounced.

One report said Jackson conceivably can move $40 million under the cap with a flurry of moves — as long as he doesn’t take back salary.

Ny Daily News says Knicks all but a done deal. Show me the money, as suspected.

Ya he is staying. The fact that the it was reported last night that we have talked to Stephenson yesterday tells me the bulls FO is moving on.

Expect more Bulls talk today. Bulls and other players.

I don't blame Anthony for taking the money...not one bit.

What pisses me off is that he talked all about how the money wasn't as important as winning a championship. What's going to piss me off is how Anthony is going to attempt tell us that his decision to stay with the Knicks is really all about winning a championship.

It would be so refreshing if he just said something like, "I thought winning was more important, but then I thought some more about all that money and decided I was wrong...money is definitely more important."
