I love everything Olshey is doing. You guys were all pissed with getting T Rob and Lopez last summer.

Sometimes you don't need to make a big splash to have a dramatic improvement.

Our bench was horrible... No one that we could trust to run the offense or score down low. We added 2 players that can help stabilize our youth. If our bench improves just 5 points a game, we would be light years better than last year.

I really think that some people are underestimating what having a legit center who can score is going to bring to the second unit. Kaman is going to help that group way more than his individual stats may show.

Blake may not have the quickness or ability to get to the hole like Mo did, but he's not going to be the ball-stopper on offense that Mo was either. I'm not going to have to yell at the TV over nearly as many "what-the-hell" plays as Mo would make either. Also, I think that this means way more opportunity for CJ to get playing time with Lillard. I don't think you'll see Blake getting minutes with the starters the way that Mo did.

    Two grades:

    1. The relative grade that judges them based on the amount of bullets they had in their clip: C+
Pretty average quality players for the money, but they didn't do anything financially stupid or crippling.

    2. The absolute grade that judges them compared to the rest of the league: D
Did they gain ground against the Spurs, Rockets, Clippers, et al. And did they hold off the other teams chasing them? I don't know about that ...

EDIT: Forgot to add that I have to dock them a bit because they weren't able/willing to add talent through the draft.

If Kaman plays 60 games he will get a C right now probably a solid D-

Neil said he was done in the press conference. Said he will always look at potential upgrades but is now out of roster spots and is done with FA.

I'm not really sure what people were expecting. Neil tried. At the start of the free agent period he reached out to guys like Hawes, Pierce, Carter, etc. We only had the MLE and BAE. They didn't want to come here. :dunno:

    Just look at Dallas now

    Most likely

    Harris
    Ellis
    Parsons
    Dirk
    Chandler

Dallas is now better than Portland imo

Well as the offseason is not over, we cannot give an offseason grade. Therefor this thread should be approached as a FA grade thread.

    That's laughable.

First, they probably won't get Parsons. Second, not one of their starters is clearly better than our starters.

    Dame > Harris
    Wes = Ellis
Nic = Parsons (if he ends up there)
    LA > Dirk
    Rolo > Chandler

The benches are a crap shoot. Carter is older than Dirt, Mo is garbage, and Wright is nothing to write home about. The Mavs are a sinking ship and they did nothing to really stop the oncoming water. Parsons will be back with Houston.

Well they were only 5 games worse than the Blazers last year and improved their SF/C positions

Carlisle is also a better coach than Stotts

Laughable analysis. I didn't realize people still play that game.

The Mavs are a better coached team, and they improved their roster from last season when they only finished 5 games behind the Blazers.

Carlisle will get them playing defense and they have a lot of scoring in their starting 5.

Who played the Spurs tougher than any other team again?

They haven't improved their SF position yet. Stop acting like that's a done deal.

    Chandler is not an upgrade.

Over the past three seasons he has played in 62, 66, and 55 games. He's making $14 million next season. That's a joke.

Oh, and here's a comparison between Chandler and Dalembert.

    http://www.basketball-reference.com...m=0&p1=dalemsa01&y1=2014&p2=chandty01&y2=2014

Dalembert played in significantly more games. He had a better rebound%. He had a better defensive rating. PER36, he outplayed Chandler.

    Big difference...

Dallas is getting older and Portland has young players still developing. Even if CJ and T Rob improve slightly, they definitely are an improvement over the Mavs.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
I'd give Olshey a C grade, on the assumption that "C" signifies average work. He didn't have much to work with and he got solid, but not remarkable, value for what he had to work with. Kaman and Blake pretty clearly upgrade the bench, IMO. The team is not much better than last year, but that was going to be nearly impossible to achieve considering they had no cap space or major trade assets that they don't depend upon remaining on the roster. They did the only thing they could do--improve at the margins. That has value in tight postseason series.

    To date: C

The best thing I like about the moves is Kaman's contract involves a buyout after 1 yr.

It's hard to say anything negative about Blake because I really like him as a person, but I think Mo brings much more to the table than Blake.

My hope is the a couple young players emerge this year as true NBA players and not just players with potential. Overall my excitement from winning a playoff series to going into this year has dropped off significantly. But the summer isn't over and maybe Kaman and Blake can make a difference . . . come on T-Rob and CJ!

Chandler is a smart player that tells players where to be on defense

Dalembert is the opposite of that. He's a mindless fool.

PER36 numbers are stupid. Chandler actually gets those minutes. Dalmerbert doesn't because he doesn't deserve them and hasn't averaged more than 26min a game since the 2007-2008 season. Oh yeah, he's only on his 6th team in 6 seasons.

Fuck, the Mavs moved Dalembert FOR Chandler. They know the difference between the two pretty damn well.

Close the basketball-reference page and actually talk basketball.
