Said it before, I'll say it again... they need to sell at the deadline, not buy

...and I said it before, and I'll say it again, no team is a seller if they're only 4 games back.

...and exactly who do they "sell"?

You are 4 back and lost your only truly reliable starting player... for at least 6 weeks, maybe more... with no one in the farm???

The last thing a team in their position should do it trade off any youth they have to bring in more veterans. Not to mention every GM in the sport knows they would be desperate at this point. Unfortunately, I expect them to fall farther out of the race as losing Tanaka is just a death blow.

...who said anything about the farm?...the players I mentioned in the OP are all established veterans.

...the last thing a team in their position should do is give up...the Yanx have a surplus of young catchers...and not all FA acquisitions require a whole lot in return.

...besides, I keep hearing how bad the farm is...if that's really true, they either wouldn't be losing much or they wouldn't have enough to sway other teams anyway.

Any of these guys that are available for cash and a player to be named later, should be done unless its for a catching prospect for a top tier guy like Tulo. As for selling...in the case of the Yanks, selling also means standing pat, lol!

Obviously we have to consider dealing an arm for an arm, and any veteran guys brought in would impact the 40 man roster. We definitely need to emphasize guys that can eat innings. And while 4 out in the division, I think its 2.5 for the wild card.

I wonder if we could sale Cashman.....? LOL...! I know their wouldn't be any takers, (even in exchange for last round prospects). I'd bundle up a spent Sabathia, Kuroda, uggh ugghh Phelps, not Whitley, Kelly Johnson, Pineda "to be or not to be" - maybe not, I'm stuck on the fence..... uggh uggh Nuno already gone, uggh ugh, hmmm, shit who can we sale, A-FRAUD...!!! He's worth a Fortune .... Only in HIS own mind....!

Maybe Castro's Brother, will let the Cuban Prisoners out, I'm sure some of those guys can play ball....may just hit a gem,if they can play with leg shackles on...? just a thought...:devilwink:

If this were a poker game (trades-acquistions) I'd be wearing a dark shaded full face mask, and put tons of money on the table, cuz I got nothing in my hand....I know it doesn't make sense, eg, only cash, no cards/players worth a winning hand.

I don't think any contending Team needs or wants a Beltran, Tex, KJ, or any of our SP's, now Cervelli may attract slight attention but from who....? (Not myself, I'm half asleep, long night not but a wink of sleep)...

...yeah, granted that some of the current players will have to perform better than they have up till now, and some of the others will have to over-achieve to a degree and all this includes pitchers and hitters.
...but adding a solid starter and an impact bat could make a difference, IMO.

...and you're right about "standing pat"...I just don't think management will go that way...this ain't the Marlins.

According to Fox Sports and CBS Sports, "Tulo told the Rockies he would accept a trade" (to a contender I'm sure, and he could be the ONE element this Team needs, DH Jeter, & Let Our Captain spell Troy when he needs it, or hell put Tulo at 2nd until #2 retires, now that may sound stupid, cuz it probably is, and I plead ignorance, I cannot wake up.........sorry for the inconvenience, Eye's wide open but nobody is home....!:smiley-new_shocked:

My opinion is it would've been a lot more of a help before the loss of Tanaka. This is just a devastating blow right now. Not only for this season but the surgery uncertainly that could void him for all of next season as well. You're looking at a club that will effectively have to build an entire pitching staff. This was just awful news with a guy who for most of the season was an automatic win when on the mound.

On your list I would love Beltre and Utley. I would try for Cole Hamels before Lee. Rios would work as would Kennedy. I think Tull is a pipe dream but I would jump for joy if they could pull it off. These are the Yankees and they are not going to sell.

^^^...yeah, that's why I think that between the offense hopefully and finally playing up to their potential and the addition of a bat or 2 & scoring some damn runs, , maybe they can get by with also adding a competent starter. I know the deck is stacked against but you how stubborn I can be, and I'm just not ready to give up just yet.

I'm just in shock with the Tanaka news at this point. I just don't believe it. I just don't see with the pitches he throws how TJ surgery is not going to be the likely result. In my non medical opinion they know they're in a spot where trying rehab really doesn't make much of a difference. Surgery now or in six weeks pretty much takes next year out of the picture.

...hey jr...yeah, Tulo is a pipe dream, but hey, if you don't have dreams, you got nightmares.

...realistically, there's little chance...but if they could pull it off, I really don't care who they trade...I've even heard talk about D-Rob and some of the youngsters being bait.

...yup, they're really taking a gamble on the time element...on one hand, if he has surgery now it puts him even closer to a possible return...but like you said, what's 6 weeks?...on the other hand, the doctors said that surgery is not needed at this time and there have been quite a few cases of returns without surgery. (of course, this is the exception and not the rule)
...I'm also not clear on what % his tear actually is...........a "partial tear"?...again, I wish we knew more details. There are also some promising techniques and since Tanaka is so young, maybe he can beat it.

From what I heard and of course who the hell knows that's it's a 10% tear. I mean like you said who knows. I mean you can pretty much forget this season regardless. If they can save missing an entire season than great. Of course either way the questions will be will he lose velocity, will he still be able to use all those pitches and can he be as effective?
