Butler, 34, gave the Thunder a strong veteran presence of the bench. He played in 22 regular-season games, averaging 9.7 points and 3.2 rebounds in 27.3 minutes. In the playoffs, Butler appeared in 17 games, averaging 6.5 points and 3.2 boards.

Besides the Thunder, some of the other teams pursuing Butler are the Chicago Bulls, Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs.

There you go. Much more our speed.

Maybe we can hold out and get Paul Pierce.

If PP wants 1 year at 10 mil, assuming we strike out on the big guys, I could roll with that. Two years at 10 mil per, well, maybe. I'm not 100% up on what the salary structure looks like next off season and if there are any FAs worth holding out for (not that they choose us very often if at all).

This is getting interesting to me. It seems that anyone who can kinda play and is under 26 years old (Gordon Hayward, Chandler Parsons, Lance Stephenson, etc.) is getting max money or damn near. These are just above average players. It's kinda crazy.

Meanwhile, players like Pierce, and to a lesser extent, Caron Butler are being ignored.

If I'm only concerned with 2014-15 and I need a SF who can get me some clutch buckets, give me Pierce over these younger guys. And I'd welcome C. Butler as an off-the-bench wing.

Pierce is 37 and just had the worst PER of his career. Better than Lu's though. He is just above average as a player anymore.

The year the Celtics won the championship, I thought he was the best player in the league. It's been a while, but he still played well last season.

I'd rather have Wade, who's 5 years younger and still performing at an elite level. He missed 28 games last season, and looked old in the playoffs. I'd chalk that up to maybe some disharmony among the big 3 (LBJ did leave).

If Wade is good with a MLE salary, sign him.

If Kirk was worth $8M, Wade is easily worth $20M.

Seriously. Wade isn't taking MLE anywhere.

Pierce made $15M last season. I'm sure he'll take MLE if Taj negotiates with him.

Wade is done. Miami will regret that contract

    • Wade is probably going back to Miami. He didn't opt out of $40 million over the final two years of a contract to take the mid-level exception in Chicago. Come on. That is just not feasible. Miami has already offered the max to Chris Bosh, and I expect them to offer Wade about $44 million over four years to finish his career as a member of the Heat. He deserves it after all he's done for that organization.
    • Hinrich .... might sign for the minimum. I still don't want this because Thibs would probably play him crunch-time minutes, but at least he isn't taking up much cap space. I expect the Craptain to be back, but at least we'll always have our jokes.

I'm sure the blogger loves Thibodeau, but just thinks that Thibs has a blind spot with regard to Hinrich. This sort of thinking always tickles me..."Thibodeau's a basketball genius except when I think he's a basketball idiot..."

If a fan is smart enough to realize that Thibodeau is the bomb when it comes to NBA basketball knowledge, he ought to be smart enough to know that, when he disagrees with Thibodeau on an issue of talent evaluation, he's almost certainly wrong.

Who was he going to play instead? Teague?

Nice try. Thibodeau's guard minutes last season were as follows:

    Rose - 31.1mpg

    Augustin - 30.4 mpg

    Hinrich - 29.0 mpg

    Snell - 16.0 mpg

    Teague - 12.7 mpg

Geez. You listed a bunch of guys for no apparent reason. After Rose went down, all we had was DJ, Kirk, and Teague and Mike James.

Again, who was Thibs going to play if not Kirk?

Kirk for cheap is fine by me. Emphasis on cheap. Not 10 mil a year announced last. Not 3+ mil a year announced last (really!).

Cheap. What he deserves. He's not terrible when healthy. If you can get DJ or Nate for cheap, you can get a Hinrich type for cheap as well.

Ya, and Bosh will regret not going to Houston. Wade can't play at a high level for the entire season anymore

I think we will get Kirk back, cheap. I hate to say this, but we need him and what he brings.

Also, I thought last season was a nice season for him compared to the last 3 or 4. He was more durable than seasons past, and he had some stretches during the season where he shot the ball pretty well.
