McDermot 2-7 through Q3. The only Bull shooting < .500 10 points though. The guy made 2 3pt shots (out of 5) and 4-5 FT.
Today is an awful day to be a Bulls fan. McDermott looks extremely limited in all the ways we worried about him being extremely limited. His handling is atrocious. The only thing worse is his defense. He really can't attack the rim at all. You're looking at a uni-dimensional, Kyle Korver-type player, which is fine if you're a second rounder . . . I'm worried about his pick. I've been watching summer league action. There's so much talent on the court this year. I'm pretty sure that Wiggins, Parker, Exum and Stauskas are going to be allstars at some point during their careers. One of them will probably an allstar this season. Gary Harris just destroyed things today -- I didn't get chance to see it. And then you switch it back to McDermott who looked overmatched. Four year college players are not supposed to look overmatched. McDermott said as much in the interview after the game, that the game was moving too fast for him. Meanwhile Exum, who is basically coming straight from high school, grew up in Australia, and hasn't played organized ball for 9 months, is running circles around people. Bad, bad day.
On the flip side, Tony Snell looks like he may be ready to take the next step. It looks to me like he may have reworked the form on his shot? (Do you guys agree?) I liked the results -- he shot really well -- but more than that, it looks more fluid now.
Well yeah, if you're going to judge McDermott on one game, then you also have to add that Snell is a lock for the All-Star game.
You'd hope that a superstar in the making would dominate summer league. I agree it's only one game, but we are seeing him against bigger and faster guys than he saw in college.

"It's going to take a lot of time to get adjusted to that." http://www.nba.com/video/games/clippers/2014/07/13/1521400012-chi-lac-mcdermott-postgame.nba/
Unless his name is Derrick Rose? Doug: 2/8 FG, 2/5 3's, 4/5 FT, 10 pts, 5 reb, 4 ast, 4 TO Rose: 3/8 FG, 0/1 3's, 4/8 FT, 10 pts, 2 reb, 4 ast, 5 TO I'd say McDermott is in some damned fine company, Rose went on to be Rookie of the Year after having a worse Summer League debut than McDermott. I'll take that as an awesome sign of things to come!!!
I can accept what Dougie says there or I can be concerned. Depends on the definition of "a long time."
It's only one game, like I said. How was Rose last year in Summer League ? He was a different player (not very good) when he had to play against NBA talent. One game. I think he scored 10 points. He scores even when his shooting wasn't a high %. I can live with 20 points on 4-16 shooting and 10 FTA. Two games is the start of a trend.
I remember Rose in the summer league. So do many of the Bulls fans. Many said we should have taken Michael Beasley. Thank God we didnt.
The NBA, in turn, is a lot faster than Summer League . I took his comment to mean % of his time, not years of calendar time. Or say hello to Adam Morrison 2.0.
McDermott can flat out shoot. He will figure it out. Keep in mind, he is going to be playing with some bigs that can pass the ball very well. As can Rose. He will get some open looks and will bury a lot of them.
Yup. Usually, they are the same people who said the Bulls should have taken DeJuan Blair over Taj. And Spencer Hawes instead of Noah. Chris Douglas-Roberts instead of Asik. A lot of the same ones are probably saying Mirotic is probably the next Darko. Probably wanted to trade Rose after his 2nd (and final) Summer League game, when he had 9 points on 2/9 shooting with 7 assists and 3 turnovers while JamesOn Curry had 10 points on 4/7 shooting with 6 assists and 0 turnovers. You know, with two games being the start of a trend, Rose certainly had no business winning Rookie of the Year, since future superstars should dominate Summer League (at least you'd hope, right?)
