Houston does have a problem. Think about if that was OUR offseason this year. There would have been some heads rolling up in here.
Lost an overpaid back up C and PG and an overpaid SF. Their cap situation next year will strike fear into every Blazer fan because they will go hard after LA
It's the same situation as Bosh. We have the extra year for the max, LA is a dallas guy, etc. etc. So... what would be different? LA is going to stay here if we make a good run this year anyway, IMO.
So if Leonar_, Mo and Batum left and cleared million off our cap and we replaced them with SLIGHTLY less replacements to have enough to sign a major FA next year you would be mad?
First of all, comparing Asik to Leonard is a joke and you know it. Mo and Lin are probably pretty similar, but Lin is quite a bit younger and actually had value in trade. Yes, I would be pissed if we essentially lost three valuable players for nothing just so we could have a chance to sign a superstar. What are the chances we would actually sign a superstar? So you know that we would end up overpaying someone so we didn't come away empty handed.
Leave the mysteries to the media to play out. I firmly believe if we have a good season, he'll take that extra year. Besides, playing "at home" doesn't do much when you're on the road for months at a time... in the offseason you can go back to your "home" anyway. And I don't really know if Dallas was his "team" growing up..
But he has come out and said he will sign with the Blazers. Its all how you look at it, nothing he says at the moment means anything until he signs on the dotted line. Houston/Dallas ect will all go hard after LA but that extra year is very hard to turn down regardless if its where your from or not.
their cap situation would have been better without arizas money on the books next year, so this is just complete nonsense. secondly, how is less than 1MM for parsons "overpaid"?
This post spews human shit everywhere. Parsons could have been had for little to nothing. And they would have to unload ariza and basically everyone else but harden and Howard to still not offer as Much to lma as us. Lin and asik are good players too. Don't act like they are scrubs
I think what gets lost is how important that 5th year of a max contract is. It's why Melo and Bosh both stayed put, and why LaMarcus is not going to Dallas or Houston. If, next year, LaMarcus signs a 5 year extension, that means he will make approximately $20 million when he's 34, give or take. There is no way he is going to make that kind of money 5 years from now if he signs elsewhere for 4 years and has to get a new contract in the 5th year. History tells us he would likely make, at most, half that. That 5th year you only get with the home team on the max contract was the NBA's way of incentivizing home players to stay. And it's working.
Exactly. LaMarcus will likely be on the decline most likely during that contract. That last year alone could be as big as his next deal if he only signed for 4 years with another team. As for Houston's awful summer, I think the Blazers would have swept them if we faced their new lineup. For all the crap Lin gets, he scored some clutch buckets for them in the series keeping them close. Parsons is such a tougher defensive assignment for Batum compared to Ariza as well. Asik was solid on defense and eventually started for them after Jones was so abused. This is major step back for a team that clinched the 4th seed.
I would rather swing for the fences like Houston, and miss from time to time, than to keep having our big acquisition be Mo Williams and Chris Kaman types.
its all going to boil down to what they do with the rest of their cap space heres hoping they continue to sputter
As we saw with the Hibbert attempt two summers ago, Olshey likes to swing for the fences when he has the assets. He didn't have anything much to work with this year to make that kind of play.
Yep. Because when you have the MLE and BAE at your disposal... you should swing for the fences. Hibbert was our "swing for the fences" a couple years ago...
