Still a small sample against summer league competition but the kid has flat out scored tonight. Hopefully the first game can be chalked up to a bit of 1st game jittters. I'd like see him get in the mix and grab boards. I think he will be able to hit the open man as he gets comfortable. Maybe never be a pocket picker but under Thibs he can learn to be a decent defender who can stay in front of his man and hands up.
Well, McBuckets did everything you could hope from him tonight. Except that Nugz team was absolutely refusing to guard people. I think the Bulls set a summer league record for threes. I'm pleasantly surprised by Baristow's range. Looks like he's probably going to make a roster.
Yeah, it's like they brought Paul Westhead out of retirement, but forgot to run his offense. Bairstow has looked good, I'm very surprised at his soft touch both under the rim and from 18 feet. I don't see any way he isn't the 5th big this season, he already has an NBA body and demeanor for a big man.
Supposedly the Bulls are shopping Smith around. I think the plan is to go into the season with a Noah/Taj/Pau/Mirotic/Barestow frontcourt. At the very least it looks like Doug will be an effective long-range shooter that teams will have to respect. That's a good thing.
Smith got traded to Dallas last night in a salary dump, I haven't heard that we got anything in return. Might turn out to be a 2nd round pick or a Euro who they have rights to, but most likely nothing in reality.
He will. Probably wont play except during blow outs and injuries. But he can play. He had a nice block last night but was called for a foul.
Good point. I have doubts about certain parts of McDermott's game translating, but he's been figuring out ways to score in volume for a long time now, so it seems safe to assume he'll at least be able to shoot at a high percentage. Snell's offensive game isn't nearly as refined so it's more of a question mark how much of his summer league prowess will carry over to the regular season.
