...no way someone who claims to have played the game can be so clueless about the game in general...it's mind blowing, actually.

...and "popovich"?...that's your answer to the question I posed about the "mythical coaches"...you point to a freaking BASKETBALL team?

...like I said, the absurdity is "mind blowing".

My exact sentiments 59, ....... Gerardi can only do so much. Players regardless of inspiration, motivation, discipline, will do what they will, regardless of Joe..... Joe can't hit for them, pitch or field for the players...!

Hell with the Pitching Injuries alone, its a damn wonder our Team is not 10 games out of first, give Joe some credit already....

Joe won his Mgr. of the Year award, not cuz he babied anyone, definitely not because he brow beat them either; because he knew how to get the most out of his young Team, and get them to perform to their maximum capabilities, not the other way around...... Joe can lead his horse to water, but he cannot make them drink, that's on the players, not Joe...!

It's so damn easy to play armchair Mgr.; another to do the job literally. Easy to sit and criticize, to damn easy.....

One of a Manager's tools, is Discipline, the distinction b/t a good Mgr. and a Great one, is one disciplines, the other teaches players Self Discipline, which yields far greater accomplishments, short and LONG Term....!

sciosa, maddon, leyland, showalter, these are the coaches players play for, not a coach who bans ice cream from the clubhouse.. these are the guys who will put 1 under your chin, guys who use some strategy, not a rah rah clap your hand and pat u on the azz...

every single coach that has been fired in any sport accept full responsibilty, they don't blame players or injuries, thats part of the game, they know they are hired to be fired!

...lmao...like I said, you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, and have not even a basic concept of the game and what managers do.

...according to your logic and your so called "experience", the teams that your "mystery coaches" manage, should win it all every year because according to you, coaches have a bigger influence of the game than the players do...if that's the case, please explain for example, what happened to Scioscia last year?...what happened to Maddon this year?...what happened to Showalter in 2011?...and what happened to Leyland in the PS last year?

its funny 59, you were the 1st poster that said i had no idea what i was talking about when i said girardi/pena calls pitches from dugout... i told the story about our roving pitching coach who called every pitch in a game when it was not done b4, game was over in an hour 40 min. pitcher pitched complete game, nobody could believe it, coaches do make a difference!

don't see anywhere i posted that those coaches i mentioned should win it every year, but i will tell you 1 thing for sure , every ball player thinks about their style of coaching, i don't see any opposing player threatned by ours!
