http://www.hoopsworld.com/article_19422.shtmlThis is for you bcb. I told you, Stern is ruining the nba.
He made a dress code and a uniform policy...my lord the whole league is going into ruin! Grow up. As usual people like this 'Preetom Bhattacharya' or whatever make a big deal over nothing.
That was actually a great read - and I agree with this guy 100%. Mr. Stern is ruining the NBA - although I won't deny that he's done many other great things that have improved the NBA, he is now taking it too far and it's now undoing all the great things he has done. He needs to stop now.
hes a horrible commish..... the whole on and off court dress code is completely pointless and unnecessary IMO. I question everything hes doingBTW, I never knew that commissioners were supposed to ruin their respective leagues

I question everything hes doing</div>While I don't like the dress code, and while the players don't like it much either, I still see where they are coming from. There has been too many players in trouble off the court, then they come in and they don't dress professionally. I can definitely see where they are coming from with the off-court dress code. I don't have much of a problem with Stern wanting the players to look professional. And Stern has done a lot of good things for the NBA. A lot. I just don't like his little rules in which I feel he sometimes abuses his power as commishioner. For example: there is now a measurement of where you can wear your wrist bands? Haha WHY??! The new ball, what was the point (and without even seeing what the players association would think of it first)? Zero tolerance policy (it has gotten better than it was in week 1, but they still call BS techs). Banning spandex (wtf?). Etc. little stupid things like that. Also, BCB, when people say that he;s "ruining the league" you are taking those words too far. What they mean is he is ruling the league like a dictatorship and he is trying to take all the emotion out of the game. 15-20 years ago NBA play was physical, tough, hard fought every second, a little chippy (trash talk), waaaaay more competitive, there were rivalries (REAL ones, not this bullsh** Kobe vs. Raja crap), etc. Now, if you breathe on a star it's a foul. If you lift your finger it's a technical. If you say one word to your opponent it's a technical. Etc. The league will never be the same as long as Stern is commishioner, honestly. This is why the NBA has lost a lot of fans, and this is why 30 year old people or older say the NBA isn't what it was when they were kids. Even my uncle said that, and he doesn't watch a full game of basketball all year long.

Sure some older people have strayed away from the game....most older Americans like my dad were just very casual NBA watchers and care more about the NFL and MLB, they have always been a lot more popular with older people considering how unpopular the league was in it's early stages. The league has changed a lot and has evolved into a stars league. Look at old video, much more team play, passing...not nearly has many isolation plays for the star. This 'Michael Jordan' mentality has taken over the game. I don't blame David Stern for it, the game was in the gutter and he road MJ and his style all the way to the bank...This is obviously why older people don't follow the game as much and why people have lost interest...it's why they are watching the NFL. The NBA has more fans than it ever has...I'm sure if you go to games you see all kinds of people there (and in Milwaukee tons of middle aged people). The game is always evolving and the game is too big to just blame Stern for everything. In my opinion fans shouldn't care about a dress code or armbands...hell many teams have taken the dress code to heart and players try to show eachother up with who dresses better...etc...People and players will get used to the dress code and the uniforms and none of this will be an issue. I don't agree with Stern's rule changes on fouls..etc..But I realize he has a rules committee of some of the best basketball minds in the game helping him with all these changes...it's not just him and I'm not going to hang him out to dry considering what he's done for the sport and what he's doing now with cleaning it up.
I will take my post from similar thread. David Stern is NOT that bad of a Commish. No business or organization of any kind can last without outstanding leadership at the top of the ladder.I always here the negative things about David Stern. "He is making NBA players dress up, "He wants to get rid of music at the games" Blah Blah Blah. Why doesn't anybody ever talk about the great things he has done for the NBA? Lets take a look shall we?1.) He invented the settlement between the NBA that created a free agency system.2.) He invented the Collective Bargaining Agreement agreement that introduced the salary cap and revenue sharing.3.) He invented professional sports first anit-drug agreement.4.) The creator of NBA Entertainment, Which has won several awards. He also created NBA.COM and NBATV.5.) Since he was made commish in 1984. The NBA has seen its greatest growth of all time in popularity.6.) He's Jewish (Added by BCB) Thoughts? I got some info from a book I have.
My biggest beef I have is people blaming him for all these rule changes...His rules committee that has many of the greatest minds in basketball have had a big effect on the recent changes.
I agree with both sides of the argument. Sure Stern has made some mistakes, but who hasn't? I look at it this way: he's done more good then he has bad. And the bads aren't even all that bad. Nothing wrong with dressing professional. Some things I disagree on, but really for all that Stern has done for the NBA is very noteworthy.
He did so many good things, but recently he's created so many mind boggling rules, and idea's that have an effect on the NBA, and the fans..

Fining somebody for wearing an arm ban an inch too high? Not allowing certain basketball related videos to be seen except for on NBA.com? No music in games? what is the point?? ALOT of things that he is taking away serve a purpose and/ or bring excitement. He has done good things, but who wouldnt after being a commish for over 20 years?
I don't think anyone denies that he's done great things for the league. He's propelled it immensely and made it what it is today, but the beef comes from the nit picky things he does. The dress code, the armband and wristbands, the zero tolerance rule etc. Personally I don't like these rules just as much as the next guy, but people need to see where Stern is coming from. Not even two years has passed since Stern's league produced the worst brawl in the history of American professional sports. That turned a lot of people sour about a league that was already being seen as thuggish and ghetto. Stern was a little pissed about that, and for good reason. So for the last couple years he's been creating and enforcing rules to try to clean up the league and cut down on the thug nature and the fighting, and make it more like a business and to conform to white America (a crowd that the NBA has lost a bit of).

True Stern is modernizing the NBA too much, but seriously hes helping discipline these players, in a few years, they'll adjsut and we won't half the tech fouls we have now, and that will stop some teams from losing and create more in game situations for sportsmanship and real basketball.
