The Rangers have signed center Matthew Lombardi to a TWO-YEAR deal worth a total of $1.6 million. (Kevin Weekes)

Lombardi is listed as a member of the Rangers on NHL.com
Lombardi, 32, is 5-11, 191 and played last season in the Swiss League where he had 50 points in 46 games.

He last played in the NHL in 2013 for Phoenix and Anaheim.

Lombardi has 262 points in 536 career NHL games.

this one is puzzling and to boot a TWO year deal. and he's small so we stay small down the middle.

First time I read this I thought he was getting 1.6m per, and I figured no way they pay a guy that much to be in Hartford. But he's only getting 800k, I gotta assume he's going to play C minutes for the pack now that Lindberg and/or Miller will be with the big club.

but why 2 years? that's what worries me that it means he's going to be in NY and not HTF.

Not necessarily, Haley signed a 2 yr deal not long ago and spent all of it down there except maybe 3 games as an emergency fill in.

Maybe giving him 2 years was the only way they could get him to come, you have to have at least a semi-competent center down there to help the kids out.

wouldn't he require a 2-day deal to go to HTF? though haven't looked at the contract terms myself. Let's hope he is HTF bound and that Sather isn't done for the summer.

Have to assume it's two way, he wasnt even in the NHL last year. Even if it was a one way deal they could just throw him on waivers, I doubt teams are going to be lining up to grab him. Cap wise I think you can bury one way deals in the minors up to a certain hit. Not sure what the limit is but 800k should be well below it.

Maybe they really are looking to move Brassard or Stepan in a bigger deal, in which case Lombardi could be insurance at C. If he can give them 30-40 pts and the concussion problems don't pop up it's a decent value. If they don't deal anyone then hopefully he dosen't block the progression of Lindberg.

I wish Sather gave Pouliot a 2 year deal last year. Sometimes 2 year deals are good

These moves this summer points to a ragtag NYR hockey season.
Sather is pulling these moves out of his azzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Such a genius. Not a pretty picture. [mid July 2014]

Richards, Stralman, Pouliot, Boyle, Dorsett, Carcillo, and Diaz have been replaced with Lombardi, Boyle, Glass, and Kostka

Miller has been with the team so that's a wash.

Hard to say that this team will be better. It's not like dominated last year. With that said, Miller can put up Boyle can put up better numbers than Stralman and if Lombardi makes the team he can put up Pouliots numbers

All this talk about trading Klein or Brassard. It's stupid, keep the players who made it to the cup

Have to sign Brassard before you can trade him. Boomer said Klein was part of a trade on their Monday show and I hope he's right. Believing that Klein's 30 games played as a Ranger with a whopping 1G/5A led the Rangers to the Cup is...
