Mavs looking to move Terry for size When last we discussed Jason Terry, it was because his chef was robbing him blind. Now, some basketball-related news for Jet fans. Draft Express has a rumor about the Mavs' future plans for Terry: Dallas is inquiring about the possibility of making a move into the top 10, likely in hopes of landing Joakim Noah. Their main trade bait is Jason Terry. Boston and Minnesota are two teams in particular who could have some use for a very efficient 17 ppg scorer. While Terry has hit some big shots and can be at times unguardable, he'll never be a true point guard and can go very, very cold from the field. In Devin Harris, the Mavs already have someone younger and cheaper who fits a similar mold. So it's logical that they'd pursue some of the holes in their line-up--namely athletic size, rebounding, and inside presence--by trying to move up into the lottey and grab the feisty Noah. This still wouldn't solve their point guard problems; Dallas could definitely use a more orthodox distributor, since only Josh Howard can reliably create for himself. But the two-combo-guard experiment has clearly failed, and addressing the need for skilled size (see this year's Warriors series) would at least get them back on the track to contention.
I want a big shooting guard who can carry the offensive load for stretches, that's what we've needed since Finley left. I thought Daniels was it, but I guess not. I wanna look at Gerald Wallace too.
HELP WANTED: WHAT TO EXPECT FROM NBA FREE AGENTS AGENTS Staff writer Eddie Sefko looks at some free agents who make sense for the Mavericks, and some who don't. A breakdown, in alphabetical order, of who might be on the Mavs' radar when the free agency period begins Sunday. (Only unrestricted free agents and those who have made it clear they will exercise early termination options are considered). EIGHT WHO DO SEEM TO FIT Matt Barnes Golden St. G-F Strong all-around performer; rates slightly above teammate Mickael Pietrus, who is restricted. P.J. Brown Chicago F-C Played younger than his age (37) in the playoffs and might be affordable. Matt Carroll Charlotte G Deadeye shooter whose career is on the rise; Mavs in market for a gunner. Antonio McDyess Detroit F Could be perfect backup for Dirk Nowitzki if the price is right. Morris Peterson Toronto G-F Solid in many areas and may be the odd man out as Raptors build. James Posey Miami G-F At 30, he still has good years left and he's a capable scorer and rebounder. Jerry Stackhouse Dallas G This is priority No. 1 and it's never a slam-dunk until it happens. Gerald Wallace Charlotte G-F Bobcats will overpay to keep him, but he'd be perfect in the Mavs' system. Full story
Whether the pundits agree or not, the Mavericks believe they have their man in Dirk Nowitzki. This is the player who's going to lead this team to a championship. Now the question becomes what the Mavericks can do to address some of the chinks in their armor as free agency rolls around. Several players, including Doug Christie and Grant Hill, have expressed interest in Dallas as a place where they could help win a title, but the Mavericks haven't truly begun to consider too many free agency options.
"Right now we're very much focused on the draft and free agents from overseas. We're not looking at free agents in the states. We're not even at the point of looking at NBA free agents. We know who's on the radar, but it's a huge list right now because we can't do anything until July 1st."
And so, with the NBA draft a couple of weeks away, the Mavericks are listening to offers and entertaining their options, but have no plans to make any major moves at this time. As always, they will do whatever they think is necessary to improve the team, and we'll be following that day in and day out through another exciting summer of NBA coverage at HOOPSWORLD!
Full story
What's up, guys?I still got faith in Dirk. I'd be happy with one of these during off season: big guard or REAL low-post.

According to the Dallas Morning News, it looks like Devean George will opt out and become a free agent. As with all players he wants money, and it’s honestly not clear whether or not he wants to return to Dallas. Injuries limited him late in the season, but George is a guy I would like to see stick around due to his defense, hustle, and experience on championship teams.

Theres Devean George out

Yeah... I heard that a while ago. The short playoff run was a little too difficult to swallow, and he also thinks that the high praises AJ's given him means more dinero other teams are willing to put up.I won't miss him much, especially after his limited availability late in the season....

Yea I wont really miss George much because of his usefulness at the end of the season. I would like to see us get tougher.

I hope he doesn't think he's going to land anywhere better. He was making about the money he deserves on a good team...what's his problem..

George's agent, Mark Bartelstein, said Monday he will meet with his client in the coming days to figure out whether George will exercise his option for a second season with the Mavericks at $2.16 million. The other option is to terminate the deal and become an unrestricted free agent.
"Devean loved it in Dallas and he loved playing for Avery Johnson," Bartelstein said. "But as we all know, this is a business."
The Mavericks will wait for the decision. Early on, it was believed George wanted to come back to the Mavericks. But the lure of free agency is tough to pass up.
Trade winds: In advance of the draft, trade speculation is heating up and one of the names mentioned frequently is Greg Buckner. Cuban and president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson each acknowledged that numerous teams have inquired about Buckner.
It's possible the Mavericks may be considering packaging Buckner with one or more of their second rounders to move up in the draft.
"Everybody's going to be talking until the draft," Cuban said. "And once they make their decisions, they fall in love with who they think they might be able to get. Then guys fall into the second round and people are going to be making all these great offers to get No. 34 and No. 50 and even No. 60.
"That's just the way it works. Just like last year and the year before. By being patient we got guys that we never thought we could get."

Buckner was pretty much absent as far as I'm concerned. He did not exist during the playoffs. I hope we find a valuable replacement for him.
Who ever said we need a big SG like we used to have with Fin is dead on. I was tired of see our guards get blazed up by strong bigger guards. We need one who can carry the offense for stretches.
