The problem with Gardner is that he seems to be 0-2 constantly.

2nd & 3rd 1 out in the 9th. Where the hell is Betances? This is his spot. instead we bring in Francis & his near 6.00 ERA.

Great fucking move Girardi. 3 run shot off a pitcher who's only good for batting practice. Just the guy to bring in in a crucial situation. Now 6-2

Is there something wrong with Betances that I haven't heard about?

Sorry Vic but I disagree, you're down one run in the 9th & you want to keep it right there to give your team a chance to win in the bottom of the 9th. He has been used all season long to come in & get the big out when needed. And even if we went with your logic why in that situation with the game on the line 2nd & 3rd with only one out in the 9th would you bring in a guy with 6 ERA & couldn't get out his mother?

Betances comes in at the spot during a playoff game, no question.

You can disagree but that's a good way to overuse a guy and potentially injure him. The Yankees play mostly close games so you cannot bring in your shutdown guys when trailing.

Betances had already pitched two days in a row. You want to bring him in a third straight day while trailing? Makes no sense since you then lose him for the next game.

First you've got to get to the playoffs & isn't that what the Yankees are trying to do. I mean the Orioles won today so because you don't use a guy to only pitch for 2/3rds of an inning you lose a full game in the standings. I really don't see the benefits there. But hey, JMO.

Yep, you gotta' give Betances some rest..... I do believe by next year we will See Dellin as our Closer..

IMO, right now he's more vital putting fires out in the 7th, 8th, hopefully stem the tide from needing a closer by the 9th, save it early.....Mo' began much the same way, other than he threw 2 Innings in lieu of 1.....

Yet, there will NEVER be another Mo'

I recall watching Rollie Fingers in Oakland often pitch the 7th-9th. Fingers threw 2 innings in more than 2/3rds of his Saves....! Gone too are those days....no more true work horse, yet with so many blown arms, I understand the need to be conservative....

When a manager can only depend on one-third of his roster,
    the team has problems.

Your point is Valid.....(don't mean to be to forward, as you sure don't need my opinion to know as much)....!

    Boy do I miss the 90s, 70s too, 60s, hell 50s......the 80s a blur....the new millenium,.....not to fond of......

My bad Vic, I was watching sportscenter earlier while I was on the computer & they mentioned about the Orioles winning. I didn't realize they were reporting last night games. Well now lets hope they lose so we can at least keep pace. They're now down 4-0
