Daniel Sams going to McNeese State

Nebraska left the Big 12 years ago.

But in the 2014 opener, the Cornhuskers will square off against one of the Big 12's top playmakers from last season.

Former Kansas State quarterback Daniel Sams told ESPN.com on Wednesday that he will be transferring to Football Championship Subdivision school McNeese State. Sams left Kansas State this spring after his position switch from quarterback to receiver didn't work the way he had hoped. He also said he wanted to be closer to his family in Louisiana. Sams was granted a release from Kansas State to be eligible at an FCS school for the upcoming season.

Texas Tech reinstates Nigel Bethel II

Nigel Bethel II has been reinstated by Texas Tech, less than three weeks after he was dismissed for punching Red Raiders women's basketball player Amber Battle.

The freshman cornerback from Miami will return to Lubbock, Texas, and rejoin the program but will be suspended for Texas Tech's first three games, the school announced Wednesday.

"This is an unfortunate situation with a unique set of circumstances and there are no winners," Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt said in a statement. "Every decision related to this case has been the right one at that particular time based upon our principles, student-athlete code of conduct and team rules.

Two Texas WRs face felony charge

Two University of Texas football players were arrested and charged Thursday with felony sexual assault after a female student said she was raped in a campus dorm room last month.

Wide receivers Kendall Sanders and Montrel Meander were in custody at the university police station. According to an arrest affidavit, Sanders and Meander texted each other during earlier interviews with police to "get their story straight," and Sanders also faces a charge of improper photography tied to the alleged assault on June 21.

First-year Longhorns coach Charlie Strong, who will welcome his team to preseason training camp in two weeks, said he has suspended both players.

QB David Ash returns for Texas

David Ash is back, and that was always his plan.

The Texas Longhorns starting quarterback returned to the practice field Monday for the start of fall practices and is healthy again after enduring a concussion that cost him the 2013 season and a broken foot that sidelined him this spring.

In his first interview since last September, Ash said he never considered ending his playing career despite his bout with post-concussion symptoms. He's trying to move on and is ready to start over.

    WR Jaxon Shipley injures hamstring

The Texas offense has taken another hit early on in fall camp with the loss of Jaxon Shipley.

The senior wide receiver suffered a hamstring injury during practice Monday, the school confirmed, and there is no timetable for his return.

"Shipley has a hamstring pull, don't know the timetable on that," Texas coach Charlie Strong said Wednesday. "I don't think it's very severe. We'll try to get him back as quickly as possible."

Colorado State fires AD Jack Graham

Colorado State president Tony Frank has fired athletic director Jack Graham, saying Friday the two had irreconcilable differences of opinion over the direction of the department.

In an email explaining his decision, Frank said the firing "is unrelated to the stadium issue." Graham was leading a campaign to raise $110 million by October to get the go-ahead for a proposed $220 million on-campus stadium project.

Frank, who said he'd have no further comment on his firing of Graham, plans to report to the university's Board of Governors in October about the project and will discuss the impact of the leadership change as part of that presentation.

    Devonte Fields, TCU part ways

TCU defensive end Devonte Fields, who is alleged to have assaulted his ex-girlfriend, has been permanently separated from the university, a school spokesman said Thursday.

Fields would likely have to sit out the 2014 season due to the nature of his disqualification as an eligible student-athlete.

He could play at a junior college before entering the NFL draft. The third-year sophomore will become draft eligible this spring.

Dorial Green-Beckham must sit in '14

Dorial Green-Beckham will not be allowed to play for Oklahoma this season after the NCAA denied the school's request for a waiver that would have made the talented receiver eligible to play immediately.

"The University of Oklahoma has learned that the waiver request it entered on behalf of Dorial Green-Beckham has been denied by the NCAA," the university said in a statement released Friday night. "The University accepts that decision and will continue to provide the appropriate assistance to Dorial, just as it does with other students in helping him grow personally from the many opportunities available to him at OU."
