We get a shortstop who's hitting 176 this year. Yeah I know this is more like spring training for him since he missed most of the season but the bottom line is, he's really no help to us now. We still don't have a solid right fielder. And we still didn't find a pitcher. The only little bright spot if the rumors are true is getting Martin Prado. A 30 year old career 290 hitter with a little pop 10-15 HRs. And can play 2nd, 3rd & some outfield. Aside from this I could sum up the trade dead line in 3 words................YOU SUCK CASHMAN!!!
The two huge problems were the collapse of the Staff, and the lions and tigers signed in the off season turning out to be nits and gnats. A bit more timely hitting from those people would have had the Yankees right in the mix instead of 5 games back. I don't know if there is a "switch" that can be thrown but the Yankees best find it in a hurry.
The bottom line is that you need to have good players to trade if you want something solid in return. The best part that came out of today is at least they didn't do something stupid. Obviously teams like the A's, Tigers and Cardinals are going for it all this season. The Yankees simply aren't on that level with this current group. I much rather they make a run at the big pitchers who will be available in free agency. Of course they need a big bat as well but this is a pitchers league right now.
