Matt Cain has bone chips in his right elbow, and the San Francisco Giants right-hander likely will have surgery that would end his 2014 season. Cain said Friday that he was still trying to decide whether to have the surgery now or try to pitch through the pain, but Giants manager Bruce Bochy later told reporters that he expects Cain is done for the year. Cain saw Dr. James Andrews this week, saw Dr. David Altchek on Friday and consulted with another doctor as well. All three doctors agreed that the bone chips are the cause of the problems Cain has been having, and that they will need to be taken out.
