Unless you think he's talking about the lack of a night life, I'm pretty sure he's referring to the Portland media.

I have no love for them, I think they're basically tabloid journalists, but I also have zero sympathy for celebrities who bemoan the media element of their jobs.

I don't read Quick on purpose. He's a piece of crap and should be shunned by everyone. Thanks so much for the link as I love making him $ and helping ensure he continues to rep Portland

once clicked, I read the link.... pretty tepid stuff you've got there for your smoking gun. A disgraced loser is badgering LA over a series of days posing the same "are you leaving/do you want out" question, to which he repeatedly denied. LA's contract is about to be up and there is a decent chance he might be traded so he addressed it with his property manager. Do you really think Quick is doing his job badgering LA's property manager? I find it amazing that someone telling an annoying jerkoff his BS is wearing thin would cause you to experience and express hate for Aldridge. Did you and Jason hang or something?

"See, Aldridge wants to end his seven-year run with the Blazers because he thinks Portland is too small. Too boring."

Quick's hypothesis, but not one quote from LA expresses anything along those lines, which is typical of JQ's crap/rumor mongering. I recall a relevant quote from LA following being drafted (paraphrasing) "I don't drink, I've never smoked, and I can't dance. I'm not someone who goes out to clubs." Has anyone here ever seen LA at a club or a bar? How about with a beer in his hand?

Quick and Canzano don't deserve anyone's respect... certainly not Blazer's fans

I firmly believe if Aldridge isn't traded the summer; olshey convinced Aldridge that we are on a winning program.

    Perhaps.

Though I think it's much more likely that assets are being acquired for the post-Dwight dominoes. On July 10-13, you're going to have a lot of teams that missed out on Dwight, missed out on signing RFA's, missed out on the big-ticket UFA's, and have visions of SAS/MIA being done in 2 years' time. Lining up quality, expensive talent will be the order of the day, and LMA is one of the highest-quality big-ticket players even remotely available right now.

That's what I'm saying. This is a great opportunity for Portland to cash out on the Dwight domino. If we don't pull off a trade this summer; then I think olshey convinced Aldridge.

The good thing about LMA is that baring an injury, his value will still be there unless he comes out and says "I won't sign an extension except with XXXX". If we don't move him this summer, which I'm not in favor of unless a team greatly overpays for him, I think we will see how the team is going up to the trade deadline. If were looking good at that time he stays but if were sucking I think he gets moved. Same with at the end of the year, we can't just make the playoffs we have to show that we belong on that stage, if we just get easily swept then we trade him in the off season.

Edit - I should also say that I don't' think LMA signs an extension anywhere. I think he wants the 4/5 years of max money because that will most likely be the last big payday he gets as a player

Awesome bump! I'm sure this will lead to a quality discussion.

Why is it hard to believe that Aldridge, at this stage in his career (last year), indicated in his exit interview that unless the team improved, i.e. to a playoff caliber team, he would not be interested in continuing his career in Portland and would seek other opportunities? It certainly appears that is probably what happened, and it is in fact a rational position for him to take. The team did upgrade the roster, the team did become a playoff caliber team, and the team certainly appears to be moving in the right direction.

Can't we put this to rest already?

I think that's exactly what happened. What's fascinating is Olshey hears this and decides to only replace the center position. That obviously was the correct decision but considering what was riding on it, the possibility of LMA walking away, you would be tempted to make more moves to the starting lineup.

I bumped this thread because it's very tame compared to others I read from last summer. I find the hindsight of 20/20 to be beneficial when reviewing the LMA from last summer.

The thing is MM said absolutely not when he had no idea what he was talking about.

And Sly- Why did Olshey have to improve the starting line up last summer outside of center? The holes were bench and center and he improved both and thus, we won 21 more games.

I didn't actually reread any of the thread. :)

I think you are right about hindsight. I think looking back supports my unsupported opinion. ;)

I know how many more games we won but there was no guarantee we would win that many more games. Olshey had tremendous pressure on him to rapidly improve this team. A lot of people, GMs, fans who think they're GMs, etc. would have made more moves than the few moves that Olshey ended up making.

Olshey made the correct decision(s) and I'm complimenting him for it.
