The Spurs are about the only team that could have done that. Popovich will retire there on his terms so he is under no risk if this move backfires.
You clearly don't pay much attention to this board, do you? If you did, you'd realize society is clearly unraveling.
I'm glad you said this, for I was going to put " Also... In before the sexist comments" But i digressed... but now you gave me a perfect vehicle to say it!
This is great and all, but I doubt she will be a good coach. Absolutely no experience playing or coaching men's basketball on any level.
A few minutes reading any thread here, but especially the OT board, and you'd lose all faith in humanity. Much of it is in jest, but there are plenty of people that are totally serious and speaking their true beliefs.
You mean like tons of people who get into assistant coaching. I agree it's puzzling that she has no experience playing men's basketball...how do we explain that? But if we widen that to experience playing basketball, she has plenty.
Plus, Pop specifically mentioned that she has already been working with players in an unofficial capacity, and that they have responded well to her.
This past year in New Jersey with Kidd and Frank? In GS this year? But yeah, generally, I get your overall point.
Considering the league hands out head coaching jobs like they're candy to former players, I don't have a problem with her lack of experience. Playing in the NBA does not qualify someone to coach. Jason Kidd was/is horrible. I still don't understand why guys like Derek Fisher and Steve Kerr were handed head coaching jobs with zero coaching experience, and I mean zero coaching experience. At least Kerr had front office experience, but that's still completely different from coaching. The NBA is the absolute worst league when it comes to hiring former players as head coaches without any track record or experience. The NFL doesn't do it. MLB doesn't do it. I have no idea about the NFL or MLS, but I find it unlikely. Just because someone was a point guard does not make them a coach automatically.
I think it's pretty ridiculous that just because she's a woman, people can't question the hire without being called sexist.
