OMG-Rob Deer, haven't heard his name in 25+ years, over hyped swing for the fences type. Alot of strike outs, and........not a switch hitter, but yep, I can see that....
Don't tell me you got a Rob Deer Fat Head on your wall, or Cory Snyder too.... Oh, nope, they didn't make Fat Heads in those days.......good one Vic...!!!
I wonder if the saying: "He's got the deer in the headlights look in his eyes" came from someone watching Rob Deer trying to make contact....?
Ah yes, when he connected (key word)....LMAO.... wonder how many Rob Deer Fan Clubs ever existed.....?
I'll roll back the clock for ya' Vic........enjoy.... Rob Deer, led the AL 4 times in K's, in but 11 years. Single Season highs of 32 and 31 HR's, the only 2 years he would hit 30+ HR's.... but get this: In 93 with Detroit, 323 AB's, 120 K's, a .197 B'AVg. Deer had in his career (another get this): had 1409 Strike Outs, vs 853 Hits....WOW....and a lifetime .220 Batting Avg.
oh shit.....Luzinski the Bull..... LMAO....never could figure out how Luzinski was able to round the bases, but boy when he connected it was in the parking lot.....that man could of lost 200 lbs, and still of been over weight.......
No doubt, HR or nothing, ....... these guys all sank in the same boat, or swung for the fences only...... Adam Dunn Jack Cust BJ Upton-already with 139 K's this year, will he make it 200....? Bobby Bonds Andres Galarraga Sosa - Juicer Mark Reynolds Juan Samuel Gorman Thomas Pete Incaviglia Reggie Jackson Cecil Fielder this one for the old man Rick- Wally Post and Pancho Herrera......
I was thinking the batting version of Pavano.... But not familiar with Rob Deer.... I need to look him up...
An original Giant, hit 442 career Hrs & had his best seasons (aside from his great one with the Cubs) in his final years with the A's. Hit 35 HRs in his final season but wasn't picked up due to his anemic batting average (210). And had the distinction of being the only player to play for 4 different teams in one season (1977). http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/k/kingmda01.shtml
Incredible isn't it, you didn't miss much in Rob Deer, Hammer, K'd somewhere in b/t every 2 or 3 at bats. what stuns me most, is he was allowed to play 11 seasons. someone was more than desperate to keep Deer on any payroll....not even exciting. I mean Reggie leads all players in K's, but HE was exciting to watch swing for the fences. Deer, well, he was just pitiful.......
I saw he set the record (since been tied by Dan Uggla last year) for the lowest BA amongst qualifiers for the batting title with a .179 BA in 1991... that's insane
I could be mistaken but I honestly don't remember guys even in the league with BA under 200 when I was a kid.
and you told me your still a Big Kid, (always at heart anyway)......now break out those Rob Deer Fat Heads Rick, I know ya' got a stash along with Chris Carter, Ryan Howard, tons of left over un-ordered from the Rob Deer Fan Club - President Days....I thought you said you had an entire storage shed full of Deer Memorabilia, ya' were trying to give away, to no avail....... I had just type out quit a few more players who have more K's than Hits, when my god damnity key board took a bath in Coca-Cola..... the bitch about it is, I can't find a damned keyboard for my PC. Got to wait a couple days to get one on order...... I think I'll switch over to teletype Morse Code....dee de...de dee de...dee dee de de
