For tying the greatest SS***, to play the game, for Hits.... (***considering Wagner played with a 3 finger glove, his defensive pctg, isn't the greatest of all time, Tulo's is, but ya' can't compare the dead ball era-defensively or offensively, with those dead ball HOF'rs)......tho' I won't deny the hits...... Incredible what Jeter has done in his Career. I've always been kinda shocked no other Yank, ever reached the 3,000 hit plateau..... Kudo's Mr. November, these are the golden memories, we will always recollect in the future, of watching a sure 1st ballot HOF'r IMHO......
Congratulations Captain even though that Ball Player of Ball Players Harold Reynolds said you didn't deserve a hit call on that play. Damn I thought Mitch Williams was bad.
If we're being honest that ball hit the first baseman right in the glove, if he catches it Jeter's out. But I'm glad they gave him a hit.
Not a bad hit to mark his record breaker of the greatest Yankee SS (all time-, to break the greatest SS to ever play the game(s). Not the Opposite Field rocket line drive I was hoping to mark his patent swing, but I'll take running out a INF squibbler...any day, Congrats to a Great Legend...
imo, until someone else fills the bill... here's my take on Jeter. Derek Jeter is the most consistent, BEST all around shortstop in MLB history. Playing 20 seasons at shortstop, gold glove caliber (and winner), can make the catch running with his back to the infield as well as anyone....one of the very best (and THE best according to Don Zimmer) at charging in, and making the play on slow rollers. .300 career hitter (6th all time hit leader) and a BETTER World Series hitter, ....one of the very best baserunners of his time..... ....currently 259 HRs, 1291 RBI, .821 OBP AND 356 SB. Cal Ripkin? Great player - yep. Did he have more range than Jeterr? Nope and He didn't do it for 20 years at shortstop. And a slug on the base paths lol. Moved over to 3b later in his career. Ozzie Smith? Fabulous defensive shortstop- Was he the hitter Jeter has been? NOPE! Ernie Banks? Great player - terrific hitter...also player HALF his career at first base. Honus Wagner? Well.... if you want to compare a dead ball era player with today's players...go right ahead.
NTM- Derek patented the Pirouette throw in the hole.....I won't debate that Jeter's the current best SS to play the game, not right now..... Yet, can you say Tulo......? so far in his 8 yrs, Tulo has the best fielding pctg. of any SS of any time all time. If he keeps it up, he will push Jeter into the 2 hole, just sayin'.....(not that I want to see Our Capt. take 2nd to any player) yet shit fire, I've never seen mobility or a SS cover the entire field like Tulo....2 web gems in one game. did you see his play on a slow roller to 2nd, whereas Tulo cut off the roller tossed the runner out, in b/t the Pitching mound and in front of the 2nd baseman. I thought then, this guy is he played deep could take an entire side of the Infield, plus his arm is as good if not better than most, stronger I'd say than Derek's too. Don't care for his side-arming throwing, yet that's how ya' teach a Infielder to turn 2, or get a quicker and as accurate release of the ball.... My only point, is YES #2 is the greatest all time....(shades of Ali).....but if time is good to Tulo, we just may see the overall best SS in the game in Denver right now and damned, I won't stop dreaming of seeing Tulo as Jeter's replacement until the Sun burns out.......or hell cometh......!
