Watching quick pitch the evening and a "Show The Love" segment with the Rays logo was shown prior to the Yankees Rays highlights. Seems the Mr Maddon was a bit miffed at fan support for Jeter. Stated that it was OK to like Jeter but Root for the Rays. The local team has averaged 17 K attendance per game. Yankees & Jeter in town drew over 86K for the three game series. Yankee Fans know there is a huge fan base here due to Spring Training and Grapefruit League Games since the Twenties. People are out to show their appreciation for Jeters ambassadorship to this game. On showing crowd reaction to a Jeter hit the camera then showed Maddon with an obvious look of displeasure on his face. Ah well, simply put Jeter has earned his accolades.
...surprised that Maddon is just now complaining. I mean there has always been a lot of Yanx fans at the Trop.
When the Baltimore series concluded asshole Wallace Matthews wrote an article on how Girardi blew his cool in game two, how the Yankees blew the game then had to face the possibility of being swept down here. We all know that the Yankees have not done well in Tampa since '10. So insult to injury was the fact that the Yankees took 2/3 games. Back in '08 there was a group of Rays Fans lead by one pugnacious individual who when the Yankees came in would stand by the entrance, offer two Rays hats for one Yankee cap and the "opportunity" to become a Rays Fan. Better a sister in a whorehouse than a brother as a Rays Fan.
My thoughts exactly & besides like Michael mentioned, our spring train games are there so of course there are going to be Yankee fans. And doesn't Maddon know how many born New Yorkers now reside in Florida
Saw more programming on that yesterday, wait until the final Tropicana Series is played, by now every Yankee Fan in the area has probably heard about this and will show up ready to raise hell. On a more immediate note I hope the Tigers sweep Tampa this series.
Joe (the genius) Maddon shouldn't complain too much- the Rays have been pretty successful these past few years with lineups loaded with basic mediocre journey-men players.
