Screw these guys and all their opinions! Go to BestBuy and get an open box Samsung and you won't regret. #TheHCPGuarantee
Yep. The plasma tv I'm looking at is there. I think it's $50 cheaper than Best Buy, or at least the same price and strangely, is about $100 cheaper than amazon.
If you don't mind waiting until HCP goes to Hawaii I can make you a really sweet deal on a slightly used Samsung TV.
I would recommend a Panasonic Viera plasma if you can still find one; they stopped making them after last year, but they truly were the best TV out there. They have huge drawbacks in weight and heat (lots of both), but the pictures is fan-fucking-tastic.
I got one of these in 2008. It was rated the best picture for a screen over 50" by CNET, and 5 stars. They've downgraded the rating to 3.5 stars due to advances in technology, but I agree the picture is (still) terrific. The thing is about 6 inches thick and weighs about 150 pounds. It does throw off a lot of heat - enough to keep the room warm in the winter time
The best/worst/funniest part is our thermostat is right over it, so we have to compensate when it's on. The AC will run and run and run otherwise. My model is from 2012, and is totally badass playing real blu-rays on a grownup blu ray player (Oppo BDP-83) that can do 4:4:4... The Avengers looks top notch; real 48Hz refresh rate, huge color space, even halfway decent sound (except when the AC is blaring!)
This thing looked pretty good and relatively inexpensive. They had quite a few in stock. I only saw one plasma there and it was only 750 but it looked like garbage. I expect it to look dim but it looked grainy as hell too.
That's the one I saw. It didn't look great to me either, but then I saw the same one at Best Buy and it looked much better. It's hard the gauge when a lot of time they don't do any calibration on the TV's.
I'd love that, but the wife is fighting me a little on the 60 up from the 55 we currently have. The 75 would be too big for the space we have.
Any Panasonic plasma is going to be ridiculous. You can't fine them in stores anymore. They have them on Amazon, but they were like 3-5k because they are out of production. I might as well get a 4k TV at that price.
Where are you located? I have a slightly used one I would part with for much cheaper than that. As much as I love it, I don't hardly watch movies on it anymore, so I might as well get a TV that doesn't set off my AC all the time.
That was my initial thought but the words on screen looked fuzzy compared to other tvs with the same feed. Brightness issues I expected, but fuzzy logos aren't what I think of as something calibration will fix. I was close to all of them, so your viewing distance makes a difference I suppose. A 5 inch change to 60 shouldn't be too much of a shock. We went from 50 to a 60 plasma I returned and then got a 55 inch panasonic led and we are fine. Oh, that reminds me. If your room is smallish, I wonder about the buzz of Samsung plasmas. I haven't read up on the latest models but that is why I returned the 60...buzzzzzzz That was probably 2 years ago.
Looks like shit, they are remodeling the food section at my Costco currently. I am sure it will be much better than that.
