I would also check the model numbers closely. I recall the big box stores models being slightly different. My Panasonic doesn't have game mode, but the best buy equivalent does. I never intended to game on it or I would have taken it back too

I'm also in the market for a new TV.

Any opinions about the curve TVs?

    Am I wasting money on a 4K?

Vizio TV's are still the best bang you can get for the cost of the TV though.

They say you can't see the full 4K if you're more than 5 or 6 feet away from a 65" screen. However, it will look better than 1080P. I tested this in a Sony store today, in fact. That is, you won't see 4K resolution from 10 ft, but you will see it look like something in between 1080P and 4K. 2K, call it, or even 3K.

I've read that the curved displays offer zero in terms of functionality. In fact, they say if there's glare, it makes it worse.

This one gets pretty good reviews:

What I have found to be a worthy investment is stepping up on a quality master control.

Are they free, because the 10 percent savings doesn't seem worth buying an inferior tv. I don't read up on them anymore and statistics might prove me wrong but I have had 6 or 7 samsungs and panasonics over the last ten years and have never had a problem with any of them other than samsung plasma buzz.

The techs on avs forum used to say they were junk, that was all I needed to know to stay away from Vizio.

Unfortunately, I moved from Portland to Utah last year, so I'm no where close.

Huh... The one I saw at Best Buy looked great. Not sure why there would be an inconsistency like that. Although it is a smallish room, I'm not concerned about buzzing. The DLP that just crashed had a pretty significant buzz and I just got used to and ignored it. I've heard the buzzing problem on this model is hit and miss. Some say you have to be within 3 feet even when muted to hear the buzz, others say they can hear it from around 8 feet when it's quiet, but not when they're actually watching something.

I'm with bodyman on this. I'd say for most people the Vizio's are great for what you pay. If you're more of a videophile, then you should probably stay away.

I'll check again before buying anything, but I'm pretty sure both the Best Buy and the Costco version were the same model. I'm aware that they change the models sometimes. I got my blu ray player from Costco about 4-5 years ago and Costco was the only place that sold that particular model. Sadly, it already has problems with not being able to play certain blu rays (BBC Blue Planet and Batman Begins so far). I've checked for firmware updates and nothing seems to work.

From what I've read and looked at, LG falls between Panasonic/Samsung and Vizio. But it depends on the model. There are some bad LG's out there and there are some good Vizio's.

    Thx for that link.

I thought 4K were about 5,000. Your link shows one for about half that price. I'm getting my new TV in about 2-3 months, maybe if they drop to 2,000 range I pick one up.

Bodyman . . . what do you think about the Samsung UN65HU8550 65-Inch 4K Ultra HD 120Hz 3D Smart LED TV

I looked at a 4 K Samsung 65 inch curved screen in Costco yesterday and if I would have had a spare $2800 [on sale] it'd be hanging on my wall right now. Amazing!

Check out Avforums for user reviews on anything you're considering. They convinced me to snag the Panasonic Viera plasma last time I bought and still have no regrets.

I suggest everyone finding their tvs off of that site and using their picture setting recommendations, it made my Samsung look so much better after being disappointed at the picture when i first got it.
