At least Cone could pitch and was damn good at that. I still remember Sutcliffe back in '84 talking trash about how he's relish pitching in a game 5 if it came to it. Well the Padres gave him the relish and mustard as well.
The biggest thing I remember most about Sutcliff was 84,maybe 85 when he was traded from Cleveland to the Cubs & after the trade he went (I think)14-1. He wasn't a bad pitcher & had a few good seasons but as a broad caster he sucks. The funniest line I've heard still belongs to Cone, it was a few weeks back when he announced Gardner's triple, he said, "And Gardner slides into 3rd with a stand up triple".
I never could stand SUCK-Cliff as a Player, and certainly Despise his arrogant pompous "know it all" persona, as a wannabe Broadcaster. Makes me wonder if ESPN is really that hard up for broadcasters.....hell, I'd do as much for free, maybe a bag of peanuts here and there.....!
RS- a know it all Honky who doesn't have the HOF credentials Morgan has....now I'm being racist against my own race? LMAO....Morgan in his 1st year, was kinda nice to listen broadcast, by constantly speaking of the proper Fundamentals; either during a players error, or great play. Always stressing those Fundamentals, as if his audience were for Kids only. Breaking down play by play for Kids watching. Then he flew south with his bitter agendas, and jealousies, which soured him in the press box, forever more....RIP Joe 'I walk on water' Morgan...you won't be missed....!
Morgan did not like the Yankees, I remember him bristling when they were comparing the '09 Yankees infield to that of the "Big Red Machine". Piss on the "Big Red Machine" alongside of Yankee Repeat winners they were a 2 cycle engine. I still remember Sparky Bashing Thurman Munson saying it was an embarrassment to compare any man to Johnny Bench. Fuck Bench too.
One thing Sparky did get right in the late 80s, was during a Angels Broadcast, when Torre was the Halos TV/Radio Anchor. Sparky during a Yankees visit to Anaheim, as a guest of Torre's, said "the one player in the game right now, who is the epitome of a hard working player, and the best role model to kids, is Don Mattingly". Sparky also mentioned, how Donnie BB would come back out on the field, after the game, when crowds had left, (when everyone else was showering), and he'd take 200+ ground balls. Always self-disciplined to constantly execute the very fundamentals of fielding, which enabled his 9 Gold Gloves in 10 years. That much Sparky got right...
