__________________________ ...kinda hard to be elected to the HOF while your still playing. *** I hear ya (I got a little sarcastic there), but if I remember correctly, Herman Weaver was exceptionally good at those very high punts with mucho hang time. Lechler can really bang it but sometimes a well placed, but not necessarily very long punt (with a little touch) pinning the opponent deep inside it's territory is needed. Very valuable weapon as well as booming it high and far.
...Lechler is near the top almost every year punts inside the 20 yard line...and is also always near the top in net punting yards.
...as far as Ray Guy, I remember the first pro game I went to was in Atlanta when the Raiders played the Falcons back in the 80's. (pretty sure it was the game that Marcus Allen became the Raiders all-time leading rusher)...But I remember being somewhat disappointed at my first live game because the game was nothing like I had been seeing on TV all those years...the players didn't look as big, didn't look as fast, etc. It was somewhat like watching a high school game. ...but, the ONE thing that did stand out was when Ray Guy punted the ball. It was a night game, so the lights were on, which are angled and aimed downward towards the field, and when Ray Guy punted, the ball soared so high that at its apex, the ball actually went higher than the light's rays and disappeared for a second before falling back down into view again. ...I'll never forget that...still blows me away when I think of it.
______________________________ Can the Raiders (seriously) become the only team with TWO (Lechler) punters in the HOF? I think we may eventually see another punter or two or three someday in the HOF.... ....and the Raiders may have two. lol
...I think Lechler has a solid chance to go into the Hall...but unless you're a Raiders fan like me, most people have never even heard of him. But only because he played in obscurity with some horrid Raiders teams. ...but as far as the numbers go, he is/was every bit the punter Ray Guy was, and more.
...they're losing to the Pats but between watching the Yanx and the Raiders game, I really think that barring injury, Carr will be the Raiders QB for many years...the kid has smarts, poise, and talent...nice to see that in Silver and Black once again.
