I don't think there is any question about that. Joel played very well last year until he got hurt. I feel confident with our top 5 bigs. We will still need a 6th big when injuries occur, so Meyers will get his chance at some point. But right now Joel is a nice utility guy that can back up the 4/5. He will push Trob for minutes.
I always thought Freeland had a decent outside shot. When he goes to D-league he puts up some pretty good offensive numbers . . . then he comes back to the Blazers and is inconsistent with his shot. I hope this is the year he can get consistent with his shot. Kind of a make or break year with Freeland. He has it him to be a consistent contributor off the bench, but needs to put it all together this year. I think by midseason he will be challenging Kaman for minutes.
How much input do the coaches have in these workouts? These aren't league mandated practices, so I think it can't be much
Blake is going to really help this season. Settle that 2nd unit down when they need it. Sent from my Baller-Ass 5.5" iPhone 6+......... FAMS
I'll settle for Blake on the second unit. I love me some Blake. Until we need someone to handle the ball in crunch time, then pull him out.
Are CJ and Will competing for minutes or can they be played together? In Summer League Will was played at SF a lot, and if that happens again he just has to beat out Wright. But he's still very skinny to play there.
I agree, but that is not why he was brought here. He an Kaveman will be a calming influence for our sometimes out of control bench. Sent from my Baller-Ass 5.5" iPhone 6+......... FAMS
I don't think he will be in there in crunch time either, but technically isn't he our 2nd best ball handler? It's not like CJ, Will, Wes, Or Batum can handle the ball better. I hope CJ can, but I doubt right now he can.
I would not be opposed to seeing Blake out there with Dame if Wes can't be for some reason. Dame will have the ball when it counts, but Blake would be a good second inbound option.
Oh yea . . . missed him the first time. Thanks for pointing that out. Wright has the talent to be a serious threat from 3, would love to see him become a integral part of the bench this season.
If so, that's bad news. I think he does just fine until crunch time. I can remember several games here with him struggling to hang onto the rock at the end of games. Teams would apply extra pressure and he'd fumble it away. I'm really do like Blake. It's just the final 3 minutes of a close game, having him handle the ball terrifies me.
It might be different with this team. Hopefully the ball moves more in crunch time with Stotts' offense and Blake won't get caught playing Nate ball dribbling around with 5 secs on the shot clock.
