Alex Winter has spoken about the upcoming Bill & Ted 3, including a few details of its non-linear plotline.

"There's many versions of ourselves in this movie," Winter says in an interview with Yahoo Movies. "[It's] answering the question: 'What happened to these guys?' They're supposed to have done all this stuff, they weren't the brightest bulbs on the tree, what happened 20 years later? To answer that question in a comedic way felt rich with possibility."

This echoes a plot teased by his co-star Keanu Reeves back in 2012.

Winter goes on to say that the movie "fits very neatly in the [series]. It's not going to feel like a reboot. The conceit is really funny: What if you're middle-aged, haven't really grown up and you're supposed to have saved the world and maybe, just maybe, you kinda haven't?"

He admits that getting Bill & Ted 3 to the big screen has been a "long, boring, protracted process," but says that the script has been finished for awhile.

Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest) is set to direct the long-awaited Bill & Ted 3, with Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter attached to reprise their roles as Ted Logan and Bill Preston, respectively. Bill & Ted fans, be sure to check out our 2013 interview with Keanu Reeves.

Any Bill and Ted without George Carlin is an absolute waste of film

    I wouldn't say "absolute", but I concur.
