...unfreaking believable...Cashman gets another 3 year contract but Long and Kelleher take the blame. Do the Steins actually believe they were the problem?...do they really think this is going to solve anything?

    ...sacrificial lambs.

Long had to go, 1b coach...whatever. As for the 3 yr deal to Cash....its not guaranteed, you can fire someone under contract...sheesh.

...why did Long have to go?...and yes, Cash's contract is not guaranteed, no one's is. But that's not the point.

...plain and simple, the Yanx's poor showing the last 2 years is more of a reflection of Cashman's shortcomings than it is of Long's and Kelleher's, no?

Yep, All problems solved now. The hitting coach who has nobody that can hit and the first base coach who has nothing to do since no one gets on base. And we sign trash man for another 3 years?? Way to go Hal. You are now a bigger Jackass than I thought before. Please sell the team and use all the money u did nothing to earn on an island somewhere.

I don't see anything wrong with dumping Long.
    Surprised it took this long.

His act was getting a little tired, hanging over the railing shooting the breeze and chuckling all the way to the bank as "his" hitters stunk up the place.

Time for a different voice/approach ...that's how it goes...
    ...teams can't/don't fire the players.
Same old story for all pro teams...

I don't see the big deal over changing the "hitting coach" for a team which not only didn't improve offensively, but actually got worse.

Good luck and good riddance to Long!

...name ONE hitting coach that turned a bad roster into a great hitting team.

...Which do you think was the more logical move, firing Long and Kelleher?...or giving Cashman another 3 years?...Long and Kelleher were made to be scapegoats, period.

Kelleher I just don't get. Long doesn't really surprise me that much, but the real guy that should have been given his walking papers is Cashman. And to a lesser extent Girardi. Personally I just think Hal had to fire somebody.

...I'd love to hear Jeter's take on this...but then again, I doubt he'd comment on it.

The team's hitting was dreadful - Long was the hitting coach.
Either you don't employ a hitting coach because it doesn't make much of a difference,or if you do, he has to be held accountable. This team's "batting results" were BAD and their very poor hitting w/risp especially in the post season these past few years has been well documented.

Is he the same "hitting coach" who was unable to help TEX, McCann ..ect hit a routine ground ball in the vicinity of 3b/ss with some semblance of success against the shift? lol

They fire offensive and defensive coordinators in the NFL --- who the hell is Kevin Long to be some kind of sacred cow? I'm glad they fired his ass - but I have to admit...I don't see why they let Kelleher go.

Good riddance Long! Thank goodness. The stench was getting just a bit too strong.

madonamia! a hitting coach has NOTHING to do with anything, all he is is a the team psychologist! TONY OLIVA, he was 1 of many hitting coaches i had, first off tryin to understand his accent alone was a challenge, heet da pelota, mirra el pelota. look at da pelicans..... he turned NO ONE into anything. he was there to keep himself around the game for the money.

do you realize how many pro athletes & amateurs have been exposed to these guys, and how many great hitters have there been?

arggggggggggggggggg! girardi would b the the first 1 to tell u he is responsible for everything that goes on on the field, i think if he came to your home, sat down with some of you and told you this himself, out of his own mouth, you would argue with him!

but then again, just thinkin bout the how geerotti decided to lay into the guys with a game left in season, i mite hav to get back to the office and re think this 1 for ova awhile..... can i put u guys on hold?
