"In the end it all comes down to talent. You can talk all you want about intangibles, I just don't know what that means. Talent makes winners, not intangibles. Can nice guys win? Sure, nice guys can win — if they're nice guys with a lot of talent. Nice guys with a little talent finish fourth, and nice guys with no talent finish last." Sandy Koufax
Durocher was quoted as saying; “Nice guys! Look over there. Do you know a nicer guy than Mel Ott? Or any of the other Giants? Why, they’re the nicest guys in the world! And where are they? In seventh place! Nice guys! I’m not a nice guy – and I’m in first place.” After pacing up and down the visitors’ dugout, the Dodger manager waved a hand toward the Giants’ dugout and repeated, “The nice guys are all over there, in seventh place.” ...that was in 1946...and the press then ran with it and translated it to; “Leo Doesn’t Like Nice Guys.”...and then to; "Nice guys don’t win pennants"...and eventually to; "Nice guys finish last". ...in fact, Durocher initially denied he ever said "Nice guys finish last"...it wasn't until the phrase became famous that he finally pawned it off as his own...and used it as the title to his autobiography, but that wasn't until 1975.
. . . Great input 59....outstanding ...^^^ Ever since you mentioned "Yankee Century"; (around ST), few if any have the depth of knowledge of the game, like you do 59. A couple of punks with inflated egos, think they know a little but say they know alot. Such fools with bloated egos know little to nothing..... It's an Honor to read your unique insight-59...^^^ Most elders here, have forgotten more than those punks will ever know.....
1 Ton of Cheetos...... Crunch or Regular, or combo of both..... Plus Tom will throw in a Vacation for 2, to his Home in the Ozarks.....
Crunchy it is..... Yep, Tote keeps insisting he has a Banjo Recording Studio in The Ozarks, but we both know His new found love of Arkansas; came only after seeing His Favorite Movie: "Deliverance"......I can't seem to get Tote, to want to stay on the West Coast....!
Helleva way to win a game but I'm not complaining. Of course I'd like to see the Giants close it out while they're home but I'd settle for going back to SL up 3 games to 2.
Giants didn't really take advantage of pyrzynski behind the plate as far as stealing bases, but yadier is an expert pitch framer. If anyone watched it, the first player up for the giants in the 10th was Brandon Crawford, 3-2 count and the payoff looks like it catches the outside corner. AJ swipes at it and drops the ball, called ball 4. Crawford scored the winning run on the error.
