...he excused himself to go take a leak or whatever just as I got to their table...as the others passed this paper placemat around for each to sign I thought about catching up with Billy and asking him for his autograph...and if it had been any of the other guys, I probably would have. But knowing that they were all buzzed and knowing Billy's reputation as a hot head, I decided against it.

...if I remember correctly, this was around 1980-81-82.

I pick Ruth as the ALL TIME home run champ because it took Aaron 800 more games & almost 4,000 more at bats.

I'm aware of Aaron's extra At Bats. Hank never hit with a 8.XX Hr ratio to at bats. Mays either....both had more At Bats, as well as many other's.....with more at bats....hiccup...!~

Aaron never hit 50 HRs in a single season. Kinda quirky.
But VERY consistent and VERY good - for a long time.

Mays hit 50 HRs in a season 10 years apart--unequaled by anyone.
He also did it for a very long time. Gotta give these credit just for being so good for so long...they took care of themselves- and with a little luck I guess.

Killebrew is an example of a great HR hitter who just couldn't do it for long as those two - but he WAS the better HR hitter for the decade of the '60s and hit 40 or more in eight seasons. Was a record for A.L. right handed hitters

...ARod should/could have easily broken that record...but I hope the colossal prick never hits another HR.

Didn't he also hit 40 HRs when he was 40? I thought only Bonds was capable of that.

Yep - but if this guy is in good condition and shows he can produce some, he has a good chance of breaking Aaron's RBI record. Unfortunately, he's already broken a cherished HR record, held by a great Yankee captain-
    Gehrig's career Grand Slam record.

A-rod got caught refueling, nothing that butthead did will ever be OK with me, Nettles has always been # 1 at 3rd for me. Griffey probably also had a chance, maybe he ran out of fuel, crash landed and had all those injuries. I can't remember if he was on the "suspect" list or not.

Aaron - no, hit 40 HRs when was 39.

If you're talking about Mays the answer is no, but Mays did steal 24 bases when he was 41years old which is a remarkable feat by itself.
He also stole 10 out of 10 when he was 42 yrs old with the Mets.
These are examples of how well conditioned an athlete he was AND his great baseball instincts.

His last big year was 1966, 37 HRs, 103 RBI, .288 BA when he was 36 yrs old.
After that, his highest seasonal HRs were 22,23,28 and a total of 118 HRs from 1967-73.

I wasn't talking about Mays & forgive for being off one whole year on Aaron's age. So mays hit 118 HRs between 1967 & 1973 ages 36-42 while Aaron hit an amazing 201 between the same 7 years 36-42 including 4 30+ seasons.

I know you were not talking about Mays.

Although I remember as much, when Mays was ahead of Aaron, quit a few decades ago...
