If you could have one player to build your franchise around who would it be?Must be a current player or a player getting drated this year.I would say Lebron James. He is 21 and can do it all, rebound, score, pass, but now he needs to lead his team to a championship.
Who wouldn't pick LeBron James? 21 years old and has unlimited potential it seems like. Each year he adds something new to his game and looking at his past three completed years in the league his stats just keep getting better and better. The best thing about this guy is that he can play inside, outside, post up, rebound, pass, just about anything you want, and he is 6'8" and over 240. He is the best choice, no doubt about it. You can get whatever players you want for your franchise and James can just melt into whatever role you didn't get filled. He is the epitome of a franchise player (taking into acount age, height, skills, weight, potential, and everything like that).
Chris Paul or Dwight Howard.Paul- Tough to find a PG that does all he does, he's a great passer, a great decision maker, and like 24 years old or something.Howard- Good to start with a big man and build around him. This is a freakish athlete who has defense built in, and offense is more easily taught than D. If he gives me some more 24-23 nights, I'll take him over anyone.I'll take these 2 over Bron since it's tougher to find such a versatile point or a beastly big man than it is to find an all around SF.

You can argue that point. Timberwolves got him and he was/is a beastly big man. So much he did for the team championship wise, he is still on the team and they haven't even been doing anything in the playoffs lately. They have had some good years, but nothing really special. LeBron James already has a chance at getting far in the playoffs this year and maybe a championship on a team that was 17-65 before they got him and this is only his fourth year. He has been bigger than any player coming out of high school, including Howard. What is more easy to find, a versatile point, a beastly big man, or a superstar at age 21 that (even though I don't agree with it) gets compared to MJ?
I wouldn't take bron also because he's said himself he's concentrated on money. I want a player to play for the TEAM, not the god damn money.

We've had this topic at least 10 times now...obviously LeBron James...I don't need to explain my reasoning.
If you are trying to win right now, I would have to go with Duncan. He has proven that he can lead his team to the championship and that he can win the. For the future, if you dont have Lebron James, you are nuts. Chris Paul and Dwight Howard are great, I will give you that. They are going to be "superstars", but Lebron is even higher than that. I just have him on a higher level than everybody else I guess.

You're refferring to the time when he said he wanted to become the first billionaire athlete. That says nothing about his will and determination to win or lead his team. All that says is he wants to make a lot of money. Who doesn't?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Something-To-Say @ Nov 24 2006, 09:23 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Win the what? Also, as I said, I don't want bron because he's about the money, not the franchise or 'chip.</div> LeBron wants to make a lot of money. Who the hell doesn't? You think Carmelo Anthony doesn't want to make as much money as possible? LeBron James might be a freak of nature but you can't argue that anyone works harder to improve and work on his game. He's not about the franchise? I believe he just signed a maximum contract to STAY in Cleveland. The New York thing was just a completely bogus rumor from some stupid New York Post 'journalist'. There is nothing behind it. Saying LeBron isn't about his team or winning a title is just stupid.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Something-To-Say @ Nov 24 2006, 09:23 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Win the what? Also, as I said, I don't want bron because he's about the money, not the franchise or 'chip.</div>Woops, I meant to say that he can take them to the championship and then win it. Considering that he has been there 3 times and has come out with 3 rings. How is Bron about the money? And even if he is, he still goes out there, wins ball games, and dominates whoever he goes up against. When people "are about the money" they tend to be selfish players. Lebron James is NOT a selfish player. He may go on stretches where he shoots too much but that comes with being as good as he is. And if you are talking about him being too expensive, thats not the case. I guarantee that Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, and Lebron James will all get max contracts wherever they sign.
Yeah, but bron said he wants to be 'the richest person in the world' not just a billionaire. So he's going to be picking up every money making opportunity, and demanding too much money. IMO, a real franchise player takes a lot of money, but not a bogus amount(3 years, 60 something mil). I mean, a 3 year deal? What the f*** kind of franchise man signs for just 3 years if he's confident in his team?

Are you joking? LeBron is an extremely hard worker, he loves the game of basketball, he wants to win. He wants to roll on more cash than anyone, so what. That doesn't take away his desire for basketball and his desire to win.EDIT: Also, you say he's not confident in his team. Well, what do they have for the future? Gooden won't get any better, Varajoe will always be solid but nothing great, Brown and Gibson may be solid future players, but probably not starters. Then what? Aging Big Z? Aging Marshall? Aging Eric Snow? Um.... Damon Jones? Sasha Pavlovic? On and off Larry Hughes? I mean give me a break. They can win some games right now, but 3 years from now with this roster they aren't doing anything.
Why would I bash Wade? Nobody has brought him up in this thread. Of course he's not a top franchise player. Also, since this franchise is basically Bron's I'm sure he had some say in who they signed, not to mention he was stoked about the Hughes signing when they did it.
