Good point. Where do you think he'll go? It's hard to move that ego/contract. What team out there wants Kobe to be Kobe on their team. It's like with Iverson. Iverson was still decent but no one wanted his me-first offense anymore. Kobe needs to be willing to come off bench like Jamal Crawford. He'd be deadly like that and could push a contender over the top. But who could pay 24 million for that?

I thought the 2009 Steve Blake's 14 assists in one quarter was pretty amazing. Tied an NBA record I think

    Philadelphia 76ers.

Way under the cap, they can do a way lopsided trade and send out draft picks and expiring contracts to LA.

Not saying this is good, but its a way to clear the books for LA and get some shit going in Philly. Goes along with the "Coming Home" theme that is so popular these days.

Sell a bunch of tickets in Philly. Lakers get to start to rebuild now instead of two years from now with nothing to show from it.

The NEW YORK KNicks. Reunite with Phil Jax. A few ways to do this.

For Amare stouamire...lakers get out of the contract one year early. Knicks get a marketable player to play alongside Carmello.

Other way is a package of Bargnani, JR Smith and Dalembert.

    Kobe-Mello-Amare. in New York.

Brooklyn would work with Joe Johnson's shitty contract as well, but its a lateral move as there aren't really young pieces. It'd be good to have Kobe with Deron Williams, KG and Brook Lopez though. A little parity to the East.

That makes no sense to me. Philly tanks and tanks and then gives all the young guys up for a Kobe that is near retirement? He wouldn't be able to win a title there. Why would he be happy? Unless they moved a couple more stars there to play with him.

That makes a lot of sense and living in NYC, I would enjoy that a lot. Great idea.

Interesting. How many years left on JJ contract?

Re: "OFFICIAL" Around the NBA season Thread

Philadelphia just can keep their young draft picks they've tanked for. All they offer the Lakers are picks and cap space. They are so far under the cap they can do it. The beauty of it is they really won't need to re-up their current young guns until Kobe's contract is off the books. They get a few years of revelance for the price of Kobe's contract. The thing with Philly, Kobe is from there, they'll sell an assload of Jerseys and it'll be interesting. None of the guys are really guys who would command the ball alot MCW, Embiid or Noel anyways. They don't have to give SHIT away, they just can't tank this year like they have been doing.

Lakers get to tank and some future picks.

Joe Johnson's contract is almost the same as Kobes. Around the same $$$ and length of time.

Kobe telling Dwight to "try me" was hilarious. I've seen Kobe try to fight. One shot from Dwight and he'd be out cold.

Kobe and Melo would be a horrible combination. Philly would be shitty. No point for him to go there.

There's really only one team that he could go to with a unique mixture of youth and veteran talent that is on the cusp of being a contender.

    The Portland Trail Blazers.

We would have to basically do another Scottie Pippen trade. Six players for one. It would keep most of our core intact, and we would have to fill some spots with NBDL guys or something.

    Kobe for:

    Wes
    Freeland
    Dorell
    Crabbe
    TRob
    Claver

Most of those guys don't even play for us, but it would leave us very thin. We would have to try to bring in some guys to fill holes.

    Dame/Blake
    Kobe/CJ
    Batum/Barton
    LA/Leonard
    Rolo/Kaman

We would have an amazing 10 man rotation, but we would have very little overall depth.

Would that team not be a serious contender to win a championship though?

I can be down with that, although Wes is probably better skillwise at this point than kobe. Just that mindset and his respect mutually with Lillard

True, but I still think we need that legit third option that teams have to worry about. Wes and Batum are too inconsistent to be that third option.

Kobe wouldn't accept a third option role. Dude has too much pride, it's his downfall.

Re: "OFFICIAL" Around the NBA season Thread

Sorry, I didn't mean third option as in "he would be the third option on offense." I meant a third guy that is a legit option to score.

Stotts is smart enough, and LA/Dame are humble enough, that I don't think it would matter who took the most shots. I'm not really a fan of Kobe, but the guy has won championships. How much better was that team with Gasol/Artest than what we have right now? Obviously Kobe was younger at that time, but I would take Dame/LA over that Laker team.

Yea I want no part of Kobe, don't think his game is going to be anything that we need. Old and slow, isn't close to the defender he was or that Wes is at the moment. Can't get to the rim at the moment so he will be chucking up contested shots the entire time. If he comes back to anything close to what he was 2 years ago then yea it would be a no brainer type acquisition but i'm betting against that.
Also unless Kobe demands a trade, which i'm not sure he will because he is chasing that scoring title and the lakers are the only team that would be okay with him chucking like there is no tomorrow, the lakers won't trade him. He is worth to much to that organization in ticket sales/jersey sales and name alone.

Well, you might want to brace yourself for Wes not being a Blazer next season. I think he's going to get a sizable offer, and I think Neil wants to make a splash in free agency. He's going to chase Hibbert or Gasol, and that means we will see a drastic change in our roster next season. Only Dame, Nic, and LA are guaranteed to remain (as long as LA re-signs).

It's possible that Rolo AND Wes will not be back next year.

Im fine with that depending on who we get and what how much we spend to get them. Im just not fine with trading for a star that I think no longer has much left in the tank except inefficient chucking.

Kobe is a free agent after this year, isn't he? I haven't checked. Either way, everyone I included in that trade is a free agent after this season. We don't really lose anything. It would be a high risk/high reward trade that could get us a championship if Kobe returns to form. I'm in favor of high risk trades.

Yeah, you're right. He has one more year. Neil wouldn't go for that. I think he wants to really put his stamp on the team this summer.
