If you guys havent been watching Dallas this season, you wouldn't know that Damp is tearing up teams and is playing SO much better than last year at the beginning of the year. Here are some stats from the 1st 9 games of this and last season.LAST SEASON-182MIN, 22-39FG, 9-14FT, 59REB, 5AST, 3 STL, 7 BLK, 20TO, 53PTS, 56.4FG%, 64.3FT%THIS SEASON-228MIN, 39-54FG, 12-22FT, 72REB, 2AST, 1STL, 13BLK, 24TO, 86PTS, 72.2FG%, 54.5FT%Sorry, but I don't have the fouls commited, but there were so many games last season that Damp got into foul trouble early on until he started coming off the bench. He's nearly averaging a double-double. 8rebounds and 9.5 points a game is much more what people were expecting out of Damp when he came over from GS. I hope this carries on throughout the season and on into the playoffs. Glad to see that he worked hard in the offseason and glad to see that Diop and him havent a problem on who starts. I know I've read somewhere that Dampier said he'd like to start, but can see why Avery would bring him off the bench. Glad to see there isnt a me first attitude with him. All about the team. Great start with him.
Dampiers contribution has been impressive this season so far.Maybe the 8 million-13 million a year, tell 2011 contract may finally be paying off?He might be 10 years into the NBA. But still shows potential, sort of. His game aginst Memphis Firday night sure showed it. 22 points and 15 rebounds. Good lord did he dominate or what? Damp using his strenght in the paint, all 260 pounds of it. As of watching him recently, there is no reason he shouldnt make the starting 5.Dampier gets more built year after year imo
Damp just needs a boot up his A$$ from time to time to get motivated...let's hope Avery can keep it up with DAmp.
He's putting up pretty good numbers so far through 10-11 games. He had a monster game against Memphis last week... I'm glad to see he doesn't only play well in his contract years
Yeah, I am pretty impressed with his play this year...I was also considering the fact that he was playing better only for the contract but now we can see that he is for real. He is putting up some nice numbers and his helping his team win with both his defense and offense play.
Yeah he had a monster game against 6'9 pollsticks such as Stro and Hak. :happy0144: great game Ericka..lol, j/k. But seriously, his stats are by default, ive watched some of the Mav games and hes getting garbage dunks, he doesn't have a killer hookshot or anything, just getting lucky.

Don't you think?

The Grizzlies did get destroyed because they have no big presence. Still, Damp has been playing better in all these first 11 games, before the Memphis series. Oh, and he played better in the preseason, which has earned him the starting position.Damp gets "garbage" points in the same way that Shawn Marion gets "garbage" points... hard work. He's a strong guy, and he's been using that to his advantage so far to get points down low, rebound, slam the ball home, and whatever. He's not Duncan or Yao, and he doesn't need to be. To call it luck is just trash.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (austingriz76 @ Nov 23 2006, 11:37 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>yeah, but in other forums mav fans are talking most improved :shok: :thumbdn1: :wtf1:</div>In that case, they are morons. We aren't saying that, so I don't know why you would act like we're raving about him. It's just giving credit where credit is due. He has improved his game. That's it.Edit: And if your basketball knowledge goes back further than a few years, you'd understand why Mavs fans are much more happy with their centers now.
While watching one of the mav games this season, there was a little interview with Damp. He said that he had always been a defensive player, but that the offensive side of the game wasnt his forte, so thats what he focused on this offseason. It shows by this good production that he has been giving the team.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>lol, j/k. But seriously, his stats are by default, ive watched some of the Mav games and hes getting garbage dunks, he doesn't have a killer hookshot or anything, just getting lucky.</div> Maybe, just maybe that's how he's supposed to be used in our offense. The guy is not a low post threat, but being able to drive and dish to your big man downlow for easy baskets is something we weren't able to do with him last year. This year, he's improved in catching the ball and making plays. He'll never be a post up player, so what's the point of calling his stats default? Especially rebounding, he's one of the best in the league. It's downplayed where I believe he's underrated. The guy averaged about 7 rebounds last season with 25 minutes. With Dirk and Howard, both above average rebounders at their position. Definately not a stat by default. He gets great position and if he can't get the rebound, most likely taps the ball out for a 2nd chance.
Yeah, I agree with Rok.His stats may not be like the ones Yao gets, or any more dominant than the points Shaq gets...but he does what he can, and he's averaging close to a double double...you can't fake that over a 15 game period.
I will take Diop's blocks and activity on the court over Dampier's rebounds and points. Dallas can get scoring from someone else but Diop's defense is very solid. Only against Yao has Diop looked helpless.
Well Damp did have the really important block on Foye in the Minnesota game that possibly saved it for the Mavs.Diop is more active, and I don't mind him being out there...but the way Damp is playing right now, the Mavs HAVE to take advantage of it.
To me, its not a question on who I'd rather have out there. They complament eachother very nicely. Its a mutual relationship you could say. If Diop wasn't there, Damp would have to play closer to 30-35 minutes a game and would get into foul trouble and be tired late in games. Same with Damp being absent. I see it as we have to starting centers that play half a game each enstead of a whole one. They are able to play way more aggressive since they dont have to salvage thier fouls as much and dont have to worry about picking up too many fouls because the other can come in and carry the center position fine. I will say one thing though, Dampier plays at the end of games for a reason. He's a better rebounder and a better on the ball defender aposed to Diop's better off the ball. Majority of Diop's blocks are on players he isnt gaurding while Damp's come from the man he is matched up to. Thats why Avery inserts Damp in at the end because he picks up rebounds because he boxes out very nicely. Also, on the offensive end, he can set better screens to get people free for close games where Dirk or Terry or whoever is taking the last shot. He's also the best offensive rebounder in the NBA. Great at getting those tip ins and putbacks.
^Can't disagree at all there pj.That's why I'd say the Mavs have the best tandem of Centers in the league...neither of them is as good as about 25-20 other centers, but combined I'd take them, for the Mavs, ahead of alot of guys.
Dampier got embarrassed by Duncan though. Diop did a respectful job in that last game against San Antonio. I think Diop's defense can be solid if he doesn't foul
Well any big man that is athletic Dampier has his problems with them. For example Dampier couldn't even play in that Phoenix series and he got embarrassed for a whole series against Amare. Dirk even got pissed with him. lol
