We're only joking anyway, it's all in good fun. There's a lot more deserving forums to start flame wars with. BE does indeed do good work with stuff like Sly said.

There's a forum that's only Mixum and a mod arguing, I forget the site. HCP and Sly know the place. I could never enjoy the layout and especially the comment section at BE. This site is designed and laid out better than any I've found on the web for Blazer content as well as a very complete index of forums. I'm glad it's here.

    Dear Dave-

I have a lockeroom pass for not only the Blazers lockeroom, but every damn one in the entire NBA and you don't!

    Here's an idea:

What if the credentialing organization (I'm looking at you, Blazers FO) spell out the criteria for "proving yourself"? What specific, measurable goals must a media outlet meet in order to gain full and proper access?

I personally bear no ill will toward BE. They're not our competition for some finite prize. We're complimentary. They were quite gracious to write up a full article on RC2 becoming the official message board of the Blazers.

Wish we were meeting here under more auspicious circumstances, dammit.

I may have to take back my earlier question. If BE hasn't "proven itself," we may not actually want to know what you have to do to get to top tier.

Or maybe they are trying to tell you that what writers crave and what fans care about is different.

I'll take intelligent game analysis over locker-room gossip any day!

So you don't like to hear what the coach has to say after a game? You don't like to read what a player thinks in his own words? When I was writing, a large portion of my articles were dedicated to quotes because I would rather give you the words from the horses mouth. You can't do that without access to the players.

Regardless, my point was that a bunch of people who have never had locker room access have no idea of the value or usefulness of that credential to a writer.

As a fan, I would rather have focus on the actual performances during the game. Instead of having most writers write about "LaMarcus put his house up for sale which only means he's leaving Portland". It's lazy reporting, IMO. So even though there is pure journalists that understand privacy, most are more concerned with getting hits. Obviously the more "negative" you can be, the more hits you get.

I like sports writers using their skills to give a better understanding of the game. That has been lost for many years. It's just cookie cutter takes of the game. Maybe they need to step up their game!

http://www.cbssports.com/nba/eye-on-basketball/24771191/eye-on-basketball-podcast-happy-nba-eve is a basketball podcast I listen to whenever they update it. Its done by two NBA writers for CBS sports and there is a tidbit in this episode starting at 41:33 where they just tear into the Blazers organization for the two tier system and supported why BlazersEdge turned down their media credentials this year. Its not a long bit only about a minute but neither one of those writers think that the two tier system has any merit.

Personally I think it's nice to see the blazers treat the press the way the press treats the Blazers... Now if only The Oregonian reporters got stuck in tier 2!
