______________________ Joe Maddon is the closest thing (mgr) to Billy Martin without the extra curricula activities. By the way - imo - if Whitey Herzog is a HOF mgr...how is Billy Martin NOT? I have yet to see a player/mgr being kept out of the HOF because he liked to carouse. It's not as if Martin was swilling from a bottle in the dugout. Martin was RIGHT THERE with Herzog..in fact, Martin's teams BEAT Herzog's teams in the playoffs with Whitey winning "o" vs Billy's squads. If memory serves, Martin is STILL the only mgr to take four different teams to first place. Minn, Det, Oak, NYY
Good, that means the Cubs re-building process, will not lack for excitement. It will be interesting to see how the Cubs rebuild, player by player. From Minor Lg. call ups, perhaps a few trades, and some FA acquisitions. I did not know how much the Cubs had to spend, yet It all makes sense, since offing a bunch of bigger contracts on the team. I made mistake #1 Never assume without the details.
________________ And I think the Yanks have the goods to pry one loose if Theo wants to deal with the Yanks. The Yankees have a couple of pretty fair hitting prospects down there and a couple of pitchers. Yes, believe it or not, the Yanks DO have a minor league system ...lol.... Their problem...AND MY PROBLEM is the Yanks just don't put their position players on the fast track to the majors. It seems as if every other MLB team has at least one or two 21-24 year old kids either playing regularly or often...BUT NEVER THE YANKEES. grrrrr
True, but they are in a position to buy into the post season yet. And two top 10 SS prospects at the same development level does them no good either. One is for trade, no mistake about that.
Yes, they can buy pitching. ZNo they can't buy into a playoff team yet. The have two, top 10 prospects. Both are SS, at the same level of development. One is obviously going to be traded at a premium to fill a gap. That is Theo's M.O. Better?
Fuck you too. Didn't realize Baez was being groomed to move to 2B. Likely means Bryant (USD hero) gets 3B. With Russell slated for SS, Cubs could have a very young and talented infield. I rescind my previous comments.
The Cubs more than deserve a World Series for the Fans first. Then for the Team, as much the Cubs Un-Official Mascot of the last 50 Years, that be: Bill Murray....! In the short lived daily sports paper: The National, the best sports humorous article was a week long affair with Bill Murray and the Journalist tagging along, to document Bills Cubs Life 1- During a game, when Zim was the Mgr. Bill hung out over the dugout roof, and asked Zim if he wanted a drink of his Heineken, when Zim scowled NO, Bill said: "I guess that means you don't want any Chili Fries either?" 2- During a Cubs public appearance at a High End Men's Suit Store. The main members of the team showed up to sign autographs for Fans, or anyone who showed up. There was a fancy catering presentation to all. Bill ate a Apricot glazed pork chop. Once Bill had ate the Pork Chop down to the bone he placed the bone in the pocket of an expensive Sports Coat, unknown to any one other than the Journallist. Imagine trying on a new silk Sports Coat, and putting your hands in the pockets only to find a old pork chop sticky bone, with or without maggots. I'd never go back to that store to even look at socks, after an incident like that. 3- Driving down the Expressway to see a Cubs game away, Bill had the Journalist drive his Winnebago, while Bill commenced to become intoxicated on Heineken, while cooking Steaks on a Hibachi in the RV. The Driver had to pull over to air the RV out, cuz he could not see to drive.
...lol. ...and if they could land 2 front end starters, maybe R. Martin behind the plate, and with the guidance of Maddon, who knows.
...well, pasta said it was, so, well, you know. ...I thought there was a chance last year that Girardi was going to the Cubs. ...I still have not heard anything final about Maddon though...kind of a strange situation in Chicago with Renteria still due 2 years on his contract and recently being given somewhat of a "vote of confidence" from the brass.
