You should just post the audiobook version of this.

Just as I thought. He wasn't playing because he wasn't doing what the coaches wanted him to do. Sitting him worked to perfection.

Wow reading T.Rob's quotes and he seems very immature. I hope he sticks with what gives him playing time

You can tell he's had this coachability problem. The good thing is, the team wouldn't put up with it if it became an issue.

I've been around other ballplayers (granted, at the college level) who've had to make this adjustment--from being the best at wherever they came from, thinking (knowing?) that they can do more, but not fitting in to what the team needs. Awesome idea bringing in his coach/father figure. It's not just the Blazers who are trying to change him, it's that they want him to fit in with a role they need. If he can do more, great, but "know your role" seems apropos here.

For the record, I love Truck in the Junkyard Dog role.

Also sheds light on why they decided to take the wait and see approach this season regarding his contract extension. Make him earn it....

Good insight. Had no idea about the AAU coach.

I keep harping on this, but Chris Haynes could only dream of writing a piece like this.

i rally hope they dont give the job right back to freeland. I think if you give trob the minutes tonight it will give him even more confidence, and with that, we can see if he really embraces the energy role we need him to be. if he starts shooting jumpers and trying to bring the ball up himself, we know nothing has changed.

I've said since the beginning TRob's problem is when he tries to play like a small forward. With the right mindset, he's the junk yard dog garbage man we need.

TRob has an opportunity here. Very similar to JJ Hickson in his contract year. Block shots and rebound and be a force on defense he could be a factor.

I would much rather have the anti-hickson. One that doesn't really score, but is a defensive beast like hickson was offensively.

Exactly, we don't need a Hickson or a Kevin Love to give back every point they score with poor defense.

I completely agree. They are different players but their problems and situation are similar. JJ wasn't coachable and TRob needs to be. JJ showcased his contract year and basically is a bench player in Denver. I hope TRob becomes a Dennis Rodman guy. I think he can. He has great instincts to rebound and shot block. JJ didn't.

You do realize that talking about Hickson is likely to bring the fury of jlprk?

As I just discovered for another thread, Robinson is leading the NBA in defensive rating. No wonder Stotts hates him

That shows a complete lack of "getting it." Dude doesn't believe what the coaches are telling him, so we're only seeing fleeting glimpses of him pretending to buy in. He's always going to believe he's the top draft pick he talked himself up to being pre-draft, not a late 1st / early 2nd round talent like you'd expect of a hustle player with his skill set.

You do realize your talking about the coach with the 4th best defense in the entire NNA, right?

Ha, ha. I bet Stotts likes him just fine. But Stotts has had to sit him to discipline him to get him to focus on what the team needs. At least that's the theory I'm running with. :)
