Ha! I was at MIT for awhile. Took and econ class too, while I was there doing an engineering project. As an aside, with the tactics being as widely known. And the most famous of quotes being "You have to pass it to know what is in it." oboma was on the air saying that "the process was transparent and open" yet, still no outcry from the left wing press. It seems the veto proof do nothing congress did nothing when it came to reading the bill before voting on it. Even then, they didn't actually vote on the bill that became law. The quote may be only a little out of context. Most of congress, as well as the people, had not idea the extent we are all being screwed. Pass the vasoline.

Then your attention to detail is dangerously lacking for someone building a ocean-going boat. Pelosi says in the video: "But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it" DaLincolnJones says: "You have to pass it to know what is in it." That is not an accurate quote. There are multiple differences there, beyond just the obvious. First of all, there's a period in DaLincolnJones' version - that wasn't actually the end of Pelosi's sentence, but of course it doesn't sound as bad if you include the entire sentence (much less the context of the speech). Secondly, the difference between "You have to pass it" and "We have to pass it". The fact is, Pelosi wasn't speaking to her fellow house members, urging them to pass the bill without reading it. She was speaking to an outside group, saying that Congress had to pass it before others were going to find out what was really in it (because, she was implying, the actual contents of the bill were being obscured by the controversy).
