Yeah I hear you Rob. I don't know who decides on these arbitration's but really some of these increases are just ridiculous. Imean if you're making 2M a season & they up you to 4M a season DAMN! that's one helleva raise. But going from 1M to 8M is just plain stupid.

I know its collusion but I've said all along that if a player is looking for 20M dollars & all the owners decided not to go higher then 10M what's the player going to do quit? No, he'd have to settle for the 10M from the team he chooses. But there always seems to be that one asshole owner that says, "Okay, we'll give you the 20M"

Both links show $23M for 2015 and $25M for 2016... maybe you were looking at the 2016 #s? But yes, he's definitely over paid

I don't know who's really responsible for these exaggerated over blown salaries, I'm guessing much of the blame goes to our own George Stienbrenner & even the A's owner I think his name was Charles Finley but somewhere its really going to kill the game because its getting way out of hand. I'm guessing we're maybe only 10 years away from someone getting 40-50M a year. And the fans are the one's who'll be paying for it. Its a real shame.

I remember reading how George Stein told the Owners in the 74 Season Meetings, Free Agency would cost them all. It would make them dig out their wallets, and George was going to take advantage of the new by-law, which he did pretty effectively in his reign.

As you said, owners rarely can agree to anything. Collusion, not sure its a bad word or process. At times it seem fair to collude. Yet, as you said, there will always be one Owner willing to pay ridiculous prices for Atheletes...!

then those High Priced FA's usually make more on commercials or endorsements, than their Team paychecks, ie Michael Jordan...!

    Don't forget Marvin Miller !

Charles O Finley, what a character.
Brought in the first ultra specialist- pinch runner Herb Washington a world class sprinter, remember?
He proposed having ONLY one year contracts and allowing the players to be free agents afterwards which would've (obviously) made them play for their "money" every year. lol
And, imo, his multi-colored/combination uniforms with white shoes and players with facial hair added a healthy spice to the game.
As a fan, I liked Charlie Finley.

Yes, The Boss did bring up the salaries..but he was merely ahead of the curve.
Once the players earned the right to free agency, it was only a matter of time before other/most owners were willing to bid on players in the open market.
And, as Yankee fan, I liked The Boss, alot!

Regarding arbitration would it be considered collusion if it was agreed that arbitration settlements cannot exceed say 30% or even 50%. That would certainly cut down (though only a small degree) on the higher salaries.

The money MANY of these players in the mediocre category are making is OBSCENE.
I mean, we're talking about tens and tens of millions of dollars for players who aren't much more than roster fillers/ "roll players".

lmao...I guess it isn't "obscene" if It were me.
BUT- trust me, I can make it on less than 5-30 million per year. lol

I would lean towards promoting "my" better young minor league players much sooner than later and keep my payroll down.

Something has to change soon otherwise 20 years from now fans won't be able to afford the games & because of that owners won't be able to afford the players etc etc.

To be fair....fans in the stands arent paying for players, that money pays staff and facilities. Media revenue pays players. And salaries need to be thought of in terms of a share of the profits.

The Boss was savvy businessman. And he did it as a long term investment, building a brand.

Indeed the Bums will get 8.6 Billion over the next 20 years....the Bums got approximately $233 Mil this year alone from TWB-Cable, now I'm hearing Comcast is making a move to buy out TWB-C...WTF....that leaves Guggenheim with but approx 30 Mil a year to pay out of pocket, yet Guggy has tons of "other" revenues too....I said prior to the season starting the Bums deal, will destroy MLB, in many ways, when *already*, deep pocket teams get these kind of disgustingly rich TV deals....! A Team with deep pockets and yearly TV revenues in the quarter a billion makr, can and will change the face of baseball, esp: Free Agents....
