Harrison's 16 lead Clemson to NIT semis 73-68

Damarcus Harrison wasn't worried when Clemson trailed Belmont with less than four minutes left in the NIT quarterfinal Tuesday night.

After all, Harrison said "we'd been there lots of times before."

And the Tigers pulled off their latest late-game rally, outscoring the Bruins 12-2 down the stretch for a 73-68 win -- its 12th straight home NIT victory. Harrison had 14 of his 16 points in the second half, including a 3-pointer and a 10-foot jumper that gave the Tigers (23-12) the lead for good.

    FSU baseball suspends Winston

Florida State quarterback and reigning Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston was issued a civil citation after sheriff's deputies say he walked out of a supermarket without paying for $32 worth of crab legs and crawfish.

Leon County Sheriff's Office Maj. Michael Wood said Wednesday that the 20-year-old Winston ordered the food at the deli in a Tallahassee, Fla.-area Publix on Tuesday night. After receiving the order, he left the store without paying.

    Terps' Seth Allen will transfer

Maryland starting point guard Seth Allen will transfer after receiving his release Friday, the university announced.

"I had a great two years there," Allen said. "And I'm thankful for the opportunity, but I also feel as though it's time for me to move on."

Allen said he does not have any specific schools in mind. The 6-foot-1 guard averaged 13.4 points and 3.0 assists in nearly 30 minutes per game last season after missing the first 12 contests with a broken foot.

Coach Mark Turgeon wished Allen the best in a statement released by the school.

Caleb Martin likely out 8-12 weeks

North Carolina State freshman forward Caleb Martin is recovering from surgery to repair a broken right foot.

The school says Martin underwent surgery to repair a fracture in the fifth metatarsal in Martin's right foot over the weekend. The injury occurred prior for the freshman's arrival on campus earlier this month.

Coach K: Okafor to be one-and-done

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski doesn't expect first-team preseason All-American pick Jahlil Okafor to hang around long.

"We won't have him long," Krzyzewski said. "We'll have him this year and then he'll be one of the top [NBA] picks."

Okafor scored 15 points in an exhibition game Tuesday.

No. 6 North Carolina beats NC Central 76-60

North Carolina had trouble pushing the tempo and setting up preseason All-American Marcus Paige.

Coach Roy Williams figured it was a good season-opening lesson for his sixth-ranked Tar Heels, who beat North Carolina Central 76-60 on Friday night.

Jahlil Okafor scores 19 in debut as No. 4 Duke rolls 113-44

    - All those freshmen at Duke made it look easy to score in their first college game. It helped when everyone kept making those extra passes.

Preseason All-American Jahlil Okafor scored 19 points in his debut, and the fourth-ranked Blue Devils had 30 assists in a 113-44 rout of Presbyterian on Friday night in the opening round of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.

Montrezl Harrell nets 30 to lead No. 8 Louisville past Minnesota

    - Rick Pitino proved he could have another title contender at Louisville. He just regrets it had to be at the expense of his son's team.

After No. 8 Louisville's 81-68 win over Minnesota on Friday night in the season opener for both teams, Pitino said he never should have agreed to play the Golden Gophers and their second-year coach Richard Pitino, his son.

No. 9 Virginia beats James Madison 79-51

Coach Tony Bennett and No. 9 Virginia have become a drawing card in the state, and with good reason.

Sporting their highest ranking to start the season since 1982-83, the Cavaliers attracted the largest crowd to James Madison's Convocation Center in 20 years, then quickly took the crowd of 6,782 out of the game en route to a 79-51 victory.

Christmas gets 21, No. 23 Syracuse beats KSU 89-42

Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim always seems to have a senior to rely on. This year is no exception.

Center Rakeem Christmas is expected to carry more of the offensive load than he ever has, and one game into the new season, he's on target.

Christmas had a career-high 21 points along with nine rebounds and freshman forward Chris McCullough added 16 points and 11 rebounds as No. 23 Syracuse beat Kennesaw State 89-42 in the Orange's season opener Friday night in the 2K Classic.

Duke scores 100 points in 2nd straight game for first time since '10

Duke put up another huge point total -- and none of the fourth-ranked Blue Devils have had to do too much by themselves.

"One of our main things is sharing the ball," preseason All-American Jahlil Okafor said. "Everybody's eating right now."

Freshman Justise Winslow scored 18 points in Duke's 109-59 rout of Fairfield on Saturday night in its second game of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.

    Pitt suspends F Durand Johnson

Pittsburgh junior forward Durand Johnson has been suspended for the entire 2014-15 season, with no reason given.

The Panthers made the announcement on Friday before the season opener against Niagara. Johnson averaged 13.0 points in two exhibitions this season after recovering from a torn ACL in his right knee in January.

Rodriguez helps Miami upset No. 8 Florida

With the game on the line and his confidence soaring, Miami's Angel Rodriguez asked for the ball.

Giving it to him was the easiest decision coach Jim Larranaga made Monday night.

Rodriguez scored 24 points on seven baskets, including a falling-down, hand-in-the-face 3-pointer with 16 seconds remaining, to help the Hurricanes overcome a 15-point deficit and upset No. 8 Florida 69-67.

Jahlil Okafor, Quinn Cook lead Duke in showcase win over Michigan St.

Jahlil Okafor spent last year's State Farm Champions Classic trying to pick a school.

He spent Tuesday night methodically picking apart one of America's perennial powers.

Quinn Cook scored 19 points, but Okafor manhandled the post, finishing with 17 points and five rebounds to lead No. 4 Duke past No. 19 Michigan State 81-71.

No. 9 Virginia beats South Carolina State 75-55

Malcolm Brogdon likes that No. 9 Virginia is off to a 3-0 start, but he doesn't want to like it too much.

Virginia finished a three-games-in-five-days stretch with a 75-55 victory against South Carolina State on Tuesday night. It was Virginia's sloppiest effort during that span, which was more difficult due the close scheduling than because of the competition.
